Makes sense - young joyriders likely steal the most bikes

hehe, yep.

Funny how when you trash the bike doing wheelies all night or blow the motor the bank still wants their money. Take it apart sell some goodies and call the police.

Progressive will pay retail for it, they didn't know it didn't run when it was snicker, snicker, "stolen".

When you are insuring your BA or Speedy with Progressive. Make sure to call it a bonneville or other/cruiser your rate drops considerably. Speedys especially can get put under speed triple and your rates will probably quadruple.
Saxtron I never thought of that, it makes perfect sense. I know a number of the zoomsplats I insure don't make the second or third year. But god I love insuring them, the commission is the same % but the cost 3-9k a year to cover.

I went through that when I first got my Speedy. I called Progressive (the company that says that they know bikes) and went round and round that my bike was not a sport bike. So, I went with Geico instead.

I switched from Progressive to Geico about 2 months ago. The cost was half that of Progressive for the same coverage.

I use Aegis they are extremely cheap.I don't carry full coverage since all my stuff is paid for. $120 for all 3 bikes I have registered at the moment. I have Progressive on my wrecker and box truck.

You gotta figure that, just like cars, many are stolen for parts. End up in the chop shop. Sport bikes are probably more likely to need replacement parts. Not to mention the sheer number of them out there. That top five is most likely the top five on popularity and sales lists also.

I pay $120 a year through Dairyland insurance. Are you guys paying what you quoted per year or per month? If that's a month, you might want to look at Dairyland!

My quote is for 3 bikes for a 12 month year. No garage for 4 months or anything like that.

Depends on where you live.
I pay about $700 per year for full coverage, just on the bike. Add five cages and it's around 4K.

Swiping a Triumph for other than a joy ride is probably less profitable. My guess is that they are relatively easy to identify as there aren't that many.

Quite possibly better taken care of, better secured etc too. I know I wouldn't be as careful with a honda as I am with the trumpy.

Perhaps Triumphs are not stolen as often as other bikes primarily because the stoopid theives can't figure out where the ignition is. The second probable reason theives don't like Brit bikes is maybe because the handlebars are on the 'wrong' side...

Among people who don't know Triumph has a bad rep. as being undependable. That may also play into it although only they know for sure.

I was going to say less Triumphs stolen because there are less to start with, but I don't see HD on the list. Around here, you see all kinds of sport bikes outside apartment buildings and duplexes. Triumphs and Harleys mostly in garages, maybe.

I should shop around because I'm paying about $280 for full coverage with $250 deductible.

My insurance a Progressive was about $340 per year, and now at Geico is about $170 per year. Both were full coverage, low deductibles and with high coverage limits.

Well, ya see Rob...I guess those Cavemen AREN'T as smart as they think they are in them there commercials, huh?!

I've had very good luck all these years with Progressive too!(but then again, we "progressive types" do tend to see things in a little better light overall anyway, right?!)

(If THIS doesn't get a few of my fellow members started up around here, I've lost my touch)

Well, in that case Dwight, maybe Progressive had it right, and maybe they do know bikes when I called to get a quote (twice as much as Geico) on my Speedmaster. After all it is a Speedmaster and not an America.

I've owned 1 susuki and 2 hondas, never bothered to take any special precautions.

My Triumph on the the other hand Is tied up, locked down, surrounded by barbed wire, mines, and rabid weasels gets peeked at out the window every 15 minutes and is booby trapped. well guess I'm exagerating a little,,, but she's kept secure.

I could be wrong but the bikes on that list are probably insurance jobs and the owner either crashed them and are trying to avoid getting a wrecked bike back after repairs, or younger person that can't afford it anymore or even possibly tired of and realize that they still owe more money for it than what they can sell it outright for so they do the old insurance job and get someone to steal it for them and call it in as stolen. Just my opinion but I lay some money on it!

Man, you guys in the US have good rates on insurance. I'm paying $560 & think I'm getting a good deal, especially when my last insurance co. wanted close to a $1000 for the same coverage.

Probly has to do with volume, in both number of bikes and number of insurance companies.

Then again it could be cuz we drive on the "correct side of the road"

My insurance premium is $428. year and was the best I could find for the coverage I wanted. This covers the bike and 3500. worth of add ons. The main reason mine is high is that I pay for 100,000/300,00 UM stacked coverage which is over half of the premium alone. I have the same UM stacked coverage on my car which in effect, doubles the coverage for both.

On a motorcycle the UM coverage is extremely important. Odds are if you are hurt badly in an accident, it will probably be the fault of a car error. They may not have enough coverage to take care of you - or they might not have any. Your UM could cover your injuries, loss of income if out of work, and future related medical treatment and income losses.

Something to think about.
