So do I need to be concerned about blowing up my airbox when I start up My Pretty Bonnie for the first time this year? Last year was B.T (Before Triumph)for me....

I think I read somewhere in here that I should turn on the ignition but let the bike sit for a few minutes. Why am I doing that? No throttle, I know. Full choke I'm assuming at first.

Thanks!
Paula

The only reason I can think of to leave your ignition on for a few minutes before any start would be to allow the carb heaters to warm up.

And, yes, with any start leave your throttle alone, use choke if the engine is cold.

No you need not worry about that...
unless you crack the throttle...
Choke (fule enrichment circuit) sure..

your giving the carb heaters a chance to do their job...

Ok guess I was wrong, I was under impression that the purpose of the heated carbs, was to prevent carberator Icing in cold damp weather, Not an aid to starting.

I would not worry about it blowing up Paula..Just dont b sitting on it the first time ya start it

oneijack is right. the carb heaters are designed to keep the carbs from icing on the road. there was a thread about this a month ago or so.

Paula, just choke it and push the starter button. Do not twist the throttle, as has been said above. When you twist the throttle it also changes the engine timing. If starting with the throttle twisted, because timing is change, can cause backfireing.

Thanks Yooz Guyz!!
I got out of work a little early today......pulled My Pretty Bonnie out from the back of the garage, was just going to start it up as I'd felt all your encouragement....
She just turned right over, no problem at all. 30 seconds into hearing that beautiful sound I skibbled into the house, got myself together, did a quick little safety check and went out for a short little put around town.Yippppeeeeee!!!
