Ok, finally, no really this is it, I mean it this time, for sure! I have been really busy lately and a slack jawed slacker all winter. Work sucked and kept me really busy, but now I am unemployed and the house is sold so I can devote some time to the bike again. Today is the day! I promise! I just need to cut the sleeve off of one throttle cable to get a correct fit for the 2 to 1 adapter and then toss the suckers on the bike, get the new air filters on and I should be good to do a little tuning and give it a try this afternoon in the cool sunny 45ºF weather. I will take digipix of course and put them on the site with some measurements and such when I get some more spare time. It's amazing that even though I am not working that I do not have any time on my hands for my stuff. The darned Honey-Do list keeps getting longer all by itself overnight.

Rob, go change your panties and go for a spin, geez! Even a half hour spin, you'll feel better!
Pat, looking forward to this!! I am really think a carb upgrade is about the only performance upgrade I'll be able to afford for a while, anxiously awaiting!!
Are these the carbs that you can get in a 3 pack? So if someone bout two sets of 3, we could devide them into three sets of 2 for cheaper?

Benny,
These carbs come one at a time. You may be thinking of the FCR39s, they are available in single, dual or triple setups.
I need to go back to the dealer (third trip today) for some way smaller pilot jets. There are 50s in there now and Ed is using 30s. I am gonna get some 35s and start from there. The main jets were friggin 280s!!! Yowser, I backed them down to 150s to start with.
Oh, and Jane came home with a box of Jaffa cakes for me to nibble on whilst tweaking, and of course it is now pouring rain, but that's okay, wash them roads Mama Nature!
edit: Ok, after extensive research (google is my friend) I am gonna try #20 pilots instead, that seems to be one step higher then what the 400cc thumper guys are running, in my odd logical mind that seems to be close. He11, what do I know.

Does this mean we can expect the Dinqua jetting guide V2.0 to come out this year with carb selection in there too?

Grrr, they're getting me PO'd about now. I got the stock carbs off, the cable cut to what seems to be the right size, carbs jetted but having a PITA time getting the stupid cables into the carbs. You gotta see it to understand, but it ain't easy. Beer break before I break something....

Pat, when you said you were going to put on the carbs and do a "little tuning and give it a try this afternoon" I thought that was just a bit optimistic but of course I feel like i'd need a a week and that's if I could do that stuff. Anyway, we wait and hope all will be well with these carbs. There's a lot of people out there who are really interested to see the dyno results. Suspense, now that's an understatement. If I was a yank, I might say that we were all rooting for you but in Aus, we don't root for others but for ourselves

OK, rested up, had some din din, a few more brewskis and got them together. Nya nya nya to the naysayers. Anyway, I'm gonna put them on in the morning as I want the filters to stretch a bit. They are a tad smaller so they will stay on so I shoved them on the carbs and left them in the warm living room overnight. That way when I take them off again they will be nice and shaped and far easier to put on once I mount the carbs. Here's a sneak preview of the original pix I took so far as well: Mikuni TM36 PicturesThey are about 1 meg each so don't bother with a girlie dialup service.

Hey Pat, Good man. Dundee's Lager, Jaffa Cakes, AND tuning notes. Obviously, your priorities are straight! Noticed the chokes. No big deal for most people. Even me! What's with the girlie tubing?

I need to make all new fuel lines with a T and an inline filter. It is the high grade stuff from Motion-Pro, 3/8" ID stuff. That oughta flow some gas eh? As for the chokes, well they got two for now but I now I can get a 2-1 choke mechanism from Sudco if it becomes an issue. Ed Smith (biker) has had the same carbs on for about a year now with no problems at all and he says the two choke thing is no big deal at all either.

Pat I like the fact that you can access the main jet through the drain hole on those. Some of my mikunis have that and some don't it makes a jet change much faster. The other cool thing about these should be that fact the jets and gaskets will be available at just about any power sports store. All that extra "girlie" tubing is hooked up to the overflow tubes, Pat works his bike hard through the curves and doesn't want gas slopping on his paint or fancy seat.

Another question.... Do you think your jetting will be similar to a 790? (isn't that what Ed has anyway?) I would imagine the jetting would be similar no matter what displacement because that just effects the volume of the mixture, not the mix of the mixture... right?

Sorry Dill, I still need the Freak kit to hold my covers on and to act as a rear mudflap. The only parts that I will not be using are the two K&N filters, the Mikunis use different sized ones.

The jetting will remain a secret for now...once I get them dialed in I will share, maybe.

Here is a picture of them actually on the bike: Mikuni TM36 mounted By the way, it fired up very first try too. Whole different sound too! I'll make a short AV once I get them all done later today. I just need to adjust the idle, trim the fuel lines, install the inline fuel filter, air cleaners and some minor cable adjustments. Note to self: Make cable about 6" longer next time! I reused the same cable I had on the Amals and it was already cut so I could not make it longer. But it does fit and work just fine, I would just prefer a bit more length to it.

The gray tubing is the Motion Pro fuel line, the pink stuff and a couple small black ones are all overflows. There are actually 3 overflows for each carb.

What do they overflow into?!? Maybe that's all the Amals needed I'm not curious as to THE jetting, just a comparison between the BB and standard 790s... And remember, do NOT put those babies on an aircraft!

The jury is still out. I spent most of the day with Jane over at her Dad's house hiking around the woods. Way more fun than any kind of work. Had a few Manhattans, now gonna work on some eggplant paramecium. But they do seem pretty stable so far. A bit of work to get the idle and throttle cable adjusted properly. Tomorrow I'll button it all up and probably have to wait until Tuesday when it's gonna be 70ºF and sunny. Rain and crap for tonight and tomorrow.

Vroom.MOV.... cute I figured you were joking, but I just wanted to clarify what I mean, always worried it's not clear in text At some point, I would also be interested to know of a bottom line cost wise. I could probably figure out the cable thing given the right instructions, and that brace seems super simple. What are you using to hold the carbs UP on the bike?

Ed's bike has the funkiest idle that I have ever heard. It blew me away the first time he started it up. Kind of a hit/miss with a deep rumble. I wanted to do the mod just for the sound.
