Hi all. I would love to get a freak kit for my 04 TBA. However financially that is not an option at the moment. I have Triumph after market exhausts fitted. What I was wondering is I have seen some posts on modifying the snorkle. Which leaves me with a couple of questions.

1)Can I safely remove the snorkle altogether without worrying about rain and dirt getting in?

2) Or would I be better trimming the snorkle and if I did that how much can I or should I remove?

3) Having made those mods would I be better off replacing the paper filter with a K & N filter?

Just pull it out. I did and haven't had any problems. You will probably have to rejet though.

i removed the snorkle and added a uni filter ( basically the same as the k+n), it did make a difference . i also have the triumph short offroads, i did not rejet the carbs, i would reccomend the snorkel removal and new filter

yank the snorkle and drill the bottom of the air box. the K&N you don't have to replace but you have to clean and oil from time to time. The paper filter is maintenance free but needs to be replaced from time to time, I forgot how many miles, not often though. personally I prefer to just replace the $30 paper filter every spring. Just my humble opinion.

If I was to drill the bottom of the air box, what size hole should I drill? How many holes should I drill in the air box. Also if I drill the air box does that create any probs with dirt and water?

Rano, there is a link somewhere but I can't remember, if you look into the bottom of the airbox there are bumps in an oval shape, I THINK you cut that area out with a hole saw and do the same to the filter bottom to line up the holes in the box. if you're usind a k&n you need to make a gasket to go between the bottom edge of the filter and the airbox so dirty air doesn't get through. rejetting should be necessary then as they said.

When I drilled mine, I used a 1" flat type wood bit. 1 hole towards each end, then a connecting hole in the center. Went real slow. Did this with the uni in the air box. As it cut out the circle, the point taps into the bottom of the airbox so you know where to drill it. Then cleaned the edges up with a razor knife. Phil
