Back in feb a guy at work was trying to decide between, kawi 900 and TBA, He went with kawi saying with the extras (windsheild and bags) he was getting more bike for the money. So he ordered one and put deposit down.
Today he walks up to me and says he's picking up his new bike next saterday, I say somthing like "cool the 900 right?" He says no 96 ci, I look at him funny. He says yeah I decided to get a Harley. I forget which model but he says dealer gave him a great deal , 13500 for the bike plus 3000 in genuine HD extras thats 16500 for the math challenged. I think to myself "Wow what an a$$hole". And he seems to be getting irritated that I'm not impressed.Asked him what made him go with the hardly, he said resale value, I pointed out that used HD's dont sell like they used to,know of 2 guys who've been trying to unlaod their hogs for 3 yrs now.He went from irritated to defensive, made the well I always wanted an HD and now that I can afford one comment.I pounted out he could have bought a TBA with every extra Triumph makes, have a cooler bike with enough cash left over for a bottle of booze and a hooker. Now he's beyound irritated and approching pissed. I think at this point he just wanted to srceam "BUT ITS A HARLEY". Some people just can't get it through their thick heads that it's not the price tag that keeps me off a HOG.

If he always wanted a Harley, he's not going to be happy with anything until he gets one. Some of my best friends ride Harleys and couldn't imagine owning anything else whether it's better, cheaper, or not. I must have 10 or 12 friends with Harleys and none have buyers remorse. Some think about their "next" Harley. I'm the only non-Harley in the group.
Personally, my favorite bike was a Triumph I had in '71 and I always wanted another one. I never wanted a Harley and still don't. I've never had trouble buying what I want - no matter what other people say. I've also had a Mac computer since they came out in '84 - never really cared what other people use or feel they have to have. I do get tired of people telling me what I should buy.
Ease up on the guy. He probably has the bike of his dreams.

Jack, I figured that my Harley friends would be bothered by the fact that my bike gets most of the attention everywhere we go. But, it doesn't seem to faze them. They mainly look at Harleys. It took almost 2 1/2 years for them to realize I wasn't going to change.
We go to a lot of large gatherings where there are 95% Harleys. Everyone is all attired in their Harley garb. I make sure I at least have on a Triumph hat and a Triumph t-shirt. Even though you see more Hondas, Yamahas, Suzukis, by far, than a rare Triumph - I've never seen them wearing a HONDA shirt or the like.

Jack, You just gave your buddy the same "Why didn't ya get a..." chapped arse that many of us get from time to time. The fact is that we should each ride what we want to ride without some lame critique from a friend. It seems you realize that to some degree, and as Martha would say, "That's a good thing." But, the only way to make it right is to be there for him when the bloody thing needs pushed onto a trailer so he can take one of those Harley trips, or, offer to pick him up at the dealers when the thing needs an extended stay. All kidding aside EVERYONE. Most of you will have to admit that the bulk of the fuel stop admirers we attract are generally Harley people. And although most of what I said above was to give Jack some friendly ribbing, its also true for the most part. We really ought to try to give the same respect we expect from others.

Hey Jackson, any chance we can sign you up into our Diplomatic Corps"??? I'm thinkin' you're just the guy we need nowdays! But I hear ya, Dude. You're right! But whaddaya goin' to do with these people who believe all the Harley propaganda anyway, HUH?! Now if that guy was SMART, he'd have bought the Triumph FIRST, and THEN satisified his "yearning" to join the herd LATER! RIGHT???!!! I mean, he sounds like a guy with enough moola to do this. Cheers, Dwight (wait a minute...the old saw: "more money than sense" just came to mind......forget what I just said)

I commute daily on my Triumph and now others in my office are starting to purchase bikes. Yes, you guessed it, I should replace "bikes" with "harleys". I don't mind but I do get sick of the "when are you going to upgrade" comments from these newbies. I love brand loyalty (which I lack, by the way) but puleeeezzze. What do they put in the coffee served at the local HD shop?

I already did
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Me too. Last Harley was an '87 Superglide. Loved the bike 'til it hit 25,000 miles and it fell apart.

Hey, to each his own. Yesterday, the guy I sold my RoadKIng to came buy to say hi and FLIPPED OUT over the TBA, insisted I start it for him, threw a leg over, etc. But hey, my club name XHD says it all for me. I didn't miss the Hardly at all. Love your bike and respect the other guy's love for his. SteveB

Yesterday I had my bike parked out on the front path while i was washing the car. A guy who lives behind me came around the block on his bike, saw mine and pulled into my driveway. He was on a Harley. Couldn't tell you what type it was, he brought two totalled bikes and stripped them down and built one good bike. It is not very often a Harley makes me go WOW, but this one did. It was absolutely beautiful.
And home made to boot. Next time i see him im going to ask if i can take a picture of it. Gotta respect some one who builds their dream bike in the garage and then rides it with a smile.

The sheep are the ones that buy a (insert brand here) because they think they are cool and they will become cool if they buy one.
Then there are the cats, independent thinking/action people that make their own choices, and buy the brands that they want for one of two reasons or a combination of both: Because they genuinely believe in them and/or have a genuine passion for that brand. Because they want something different from the sheeple.

How many cats does it take to make a flock? A flock of cats can be pretty dangerous but really funny to watch.

Do you know how they diagnos the cats that have become ill recently in the U.S. due to bad Pet Food??? That's right...CAT scans. (Ok, it's weak but I actually heard this in Church Sunday from the preacher man!).

I have friends that have both Triumph and HD. They like both for what they are. Several of them have Conventry and Hinckley Triumphs plus the HD. I am one of the few that only has the one bike.

Hardley is over priced to say the least. I had one years ago and will never own another.Thought it would be cheaper than a car to run. saved on gas and ins. but it nickle and dimed me to death to keep it running. I bought it for $500. was a mostly origonal running pan head. Used to be all they were worth. Then came the yuppie invasion with thier gold cards. I wish bikes would stop being cool and go back to the days when the diner would clear out when I walked in now everyone wants to talk to me instead of hide.

Rode Harley Fergussons for 12 yrs. I like to take a mate's for a ride every now and then, just to remind me why I bought a Trump. His brand new, 70's designed, crap handling, crap braking vibrobike brings a smile to my dial every time, but he won't buy anything else, god bless him. Slick marketing, and the dipshit factor, no less.

Cats, dogs, sheeps, humbug. I'd rather be an Oscar Meyer wiener, 'cause then everyone could take a bite of me.
And yes, I have Harley and Triumph because each does what they do very well. Currently, my HD is a good bit faster at the top end, easily topping 100 with 2 gears to go while the America is starting to run out of poopys there and tops out a little over 105. On the other hand, the HD is a lot heavier and doesn't take well at all to a crooked road, but the America does quite nicely. The Triumph takes to home mechanicing a bit better. Both have "The Look" that says "This is a real motorcycle". And, the last equalizer, neither has a kickstart kit available.
