As this stuff comes highly recommended I thought I'd get some and clean up the dirtball for only the second time in her life.
Called several local hardware stores... no luck.
Went online at the big box stores to see if I'd be able to get it there locally. Nada. Sears? nope.
Online then... no immediate leads for a Simichrome online store... found a link to the company that makes it though and a phone number. Nice lady. Suggested maybe my local Ace hardware... or a motorcycle dealer.. and she'd look one up for me. Hmmmm. Here's one an hour away that we sell to... Or (she says lowering her voice) sometimes other shops get it on ebay and sell it like that so I should call around but (even more quietly) don't bother trying the Harley shops.
OK... I can do that. Call some independent shops and they're out. OUT.
What is this stuff... the golden chalice?
The sad thing is I had one last bright idea, and for ONCE it worked. I called my dealer. Scads of Simichrome in stock... waves of it crashing over the parts desk apparently. Stop in they've got plenty of what I want.
First time for everything I suppose.
Set the gearshift for the high gear of your soul...

I never heard of simichrome. What is it? What is it supposed to do? I always use Speedy. The Speedy kit comes with micro fiber polishing cloths and diamond ultra fine finishing polish. Its very popular among truckers. Got a sample at an event we set up at and I never saw anything like it or better. It is also popular on the show car circut the top end show car people use it like Boyd Coddington I am not saying he uses it just using him as an example of what I mean by high end.

Thanx for the info. That is much less expensive but how does it work? Anyone use it out there? I have seen some supposed polishing compound and polishes that leave scratches.

Pretty much like any other polish. I put it on a rag (old cotton T-shirt), work it in, and polish it off. A good application of it lasts quite a while too.

Ray, if you guys in the UK would just give in and switch to the Euro, you guys in the UK could buy it! After all, it's made in Germany, so I'm sure is readily available to those in the EU with good Euros to spend...

I bought from Marbeck also. I would suggest getting a can to keep in your garage and a tube for trips or carrying around. I primarily use it for non chrome like aluminum (brake/clutch levers) and stainless. BUT, if you get some blueing on the headers, you can work it off with Semichrome.
Neat stuff. The painted metal pieces were flaking that go from the throttle to the adjuster screws (two curved metal tubes), I polished them with Semichrome and they look exactly like chrome. I guess they were stainless underneath the paint. You can polish the levers to look like chrome.

Hey Dog, here's my two cents(coin collector reference): Although I haven't tried Simichrome, I've had good results with these:
SPEEDY Got a case for work(trucking co) from the guy who makes it. If I remember, it was about $20/qt, by the case. Puts an awesome shine on the aluminium BUD wheels. Very good results on the bike,as well. I think his co is Chem-Tech, spoke to him on the phone, real nice guy. Old school, he sent me the case w/o pre-payment, said send him a check when you get it. I'll put a bill in the box.
BOM's Away Got this from a co now called Capt'n Richard's Best. Works very well also. He has a nice product line. I use a spray he sells instead of wax. It used to be called The BOM, now it's "BEST". Spray it on, wipe w'microfiber towel. Ask anyone who's seem my bike how it works, or see my gallery. (sorry to toot my own horn here, but I'm trying to make an honest product review)
NEVR-DULL I not sure why, but I've loved this stuff for over 30 years. It's great for a quick spiff-up. Go around the bike with a little clump of the "Magic Wadding Polish" (as it used to be called), buff of w/the micro.....Good to go!
And finally:
TOTALLY BUFF This stuff, and 6 hours w/a cotton wheel in a cordless drill is what got the hideous blueing off my pipes.
Disclaimer: I am, in no way, shape, or form, affilliated, connected, or anything else, with any of these products, nor do I recomend their use. I'm simply reporting my results.

No I am not young look at my recent grandpa post!! LOL I already use Speedy like I said above but it is costly and I know the guy who makes it. That is why I get a free kit every now and then.I met him at one of the events Wendy and I vend at.Nice guy. I have never heard of Simichrome though.Never heard of Boms Away either the rest I have. I make stainless parts all the time our bikes are covered with 1 off parts I have made. I use speedy after the buffing wheel and to keep the parts nice. Made a really cool oil pressure gauge cost me all of $60 and looks better than any I have seen for sale. Even liquid filled to dampen vibration.

what about blue away for the blue pipes I have had pretty good results with that there is another one like it that I can't remember the name of if I do I'll post it. Takes some rubbing but sounds like not as bad as what you describe with the drill and wheel.

Probably thinking about Blue Job? I've used both Blue products and either will effectively remove bluing. The only problem with them is that they do scratch the surface a little.

Another very good product similar to Simichrome is Fltz.

I have been intouch with the company in Germany and asked if I could buy a box, also a friend offered to buy a box who owns a garage, they refused us point blank. When I was touring Germany I looked everywhere for it but could not find any, also asked one of the lads on here who lives in Germany, but he could not come up with a supplier..

I can't believe companies like this. They refuse to sell their product to you? Don't they want a new dealer? What's the min order to be a stocking dealer? If this stuff is "rare as rocking horse poop", and it's not available in your area, seems like it would be easy to sell.
I guess I just don't get it, Uncle Charlie

He owns a garage and they won't sell to him? I own a towing co and very small salvage yard and I do sell some new parts tax ID and the whole 9. Does he have a tax ID? I wonder if they would sell to me as a salvage dealer?

Ray, It's made in Germany. You should be able to get it in Europe?!?! I've used it since 1973. and still keep it on hand. Mothers and other brands are fine for cleaning chrome, but if you need to polish some trashed chrome, Simichrome is the best. When my bike is clean, I use Pledge furniture polish on (cool) chrome bits - I learned that at a custom bike show. Works well.
