Anybody have any ideas about a good windshield or fairing for my 06 TBA? I already got a full-size windshield when I bought the bike but, above 60mph, my helmet gets beaten up from the turbulence. Is that normal or is it something I'll have to get used to if I want to ride the interstate at 70mph?

Depending on the strength and direction of the wind and shield height, there is going to be some turbulence whatever you buy. I've heard Windvest makes a good shield. Donny a member from this site had one for his TBA, and he said there was very little wind buffeting. They have a website, Google Windvest. Also, welcome aboard Boxcar!!!

I'm guessing your tall. You may need to adjust the windscreen to a more vertical angle to raise the height. If that doesn't work, you'll need to spend more money on another screen.

The problem could be air coming from under the screen and around the tank from below. If at highway speed you put your left arm across your chest (or if you put a tankbag on) and it cuts the buffet down, it's not the screen (or not just the screen), you may need to add lowers.
If you want something just a bit larger, consider a Clearview. They make a larger screen that will work with the Roadster screen hardware (assuming the large screen you have is a Triumph Roadster). A nice smaller screen that has nice lines is a Givi A600.

Of course if you scroll through the photos you'll see tons of screen options. Search the archives and you'll find many buffet threads.

Welcome aboard.

There is a huge difference between the performance of different manufacturers' screens. What kind and size of screen is on your bike now and how tall are you?

Having recently ridden up to Phoenix about three weeks ago on a very windy day (head wind) and some cross winds. I found it to be a less than fun experience. Only some total of 90 miles on the slab to get where I was headed but not a pleasant ride at all.

My bike has no wind screen at all. I imagine in a strong head wind it would not have helped much anyway and cross winds must play heck with the screen?

I bought my bike with a roadster fitted and I couldn't cope with it,it dragged the bike all over the road. Now I ride it as I've rode all my bikes,I really don't like screens.

I inherited a triumph summer screen which whilst it protected my torso, it was just high enough so that the air stream got me smack bang in the face. I think I might have been better off with no screen at all until several on this forum pointed out . this one I have had it a couple of weeks now and the air stream now just goes straight over the top of my head. In other words, no more buffetting of my head and face and now I can relax and enjoy the ride. Also it really was a great purchase for me as I could use my existing hardware from the summer screen. All in all, I am really pleased with the purchase as it does what a screen like this one should.

I just put a memphis fats on my speedy and got on the interstate today and I loved it. I was tired of getting beat up by the wind at 70 mph. I got the 17 inch and thought it was nose level but by the time I got home I noticed I was looking thru it. (slouching). It has sorta quick release brackets so it can be removed in 3 minutes.and no buffeting. Now my yute says I look like ponch, oh great.

Thanx for all the great ideas! Actually, I'm just 5'8" but still getting buffeted by turbulence above 60mph. Unlike the Summer Screen which doesn't look like much aerodynamic testing was given it (just a simple curved piece of plexiglass with mounting holes), the Clearview and the others looked like they've been made with windtunnel testing in mind.

I don't think you'll find anyone who has replaced their Summer Screen or Roadster Screen with a Clearview Shield that isn't a satisfied customer. I'm one of them. The Clearview is much better than the Triumph ones in appearance, quality and function. If you have a Summer Screen - BUY THE CLEARVIEW replacement the correct size for you. It's the cheapest way to end up with the best solution to your problem.

Don't have any mounts - that's a different story.

I'd give you a photo of mine but I can't get photobucket to accept my log in. Maybe my changing computer recently has had something to do with it

Most buffeting on our bikes is caused by wind coming up from your legs. The forward mounted pegs and your leg position act like a ramp for the air. Memphis Shade lowers solves this problem. The thngs is I hate the way they look so I won't put them on the bike.

So is it the Clearview or Windvest? I currently do not have either or mounting hardward. Looks like Windvest comes with the hardware. I'm tall 6-4.. so any suggestions?... Oh and one other thing, I just got a new 06 America, short pipes and all and love it.

Clearview only makes replacment plastic screens for the OEM Triumph screens. You just replace the plastic. I'm getting the Clearview at the end of this season, 1"+ on both dimensions.

Clearview sent me this info in April of '06:
Hello Al,
Thanks for contacting us. We carry only the replacement shields for the OEM brackets. We do not offer any brackets.

Here is some information on our America shields that mount up to the Triumph Roadster brackets.

I look forward to hearing from you to answer any questions you may have.

If you were thinking of purchasing one of our shields, it would be good timing to order before the Spring Rush. We are currently running about 4 weeks to ship.

If you would like to place an order, either give me a call, an e-mail, or you can order by fax 24/7 by printing out our fax order form, fax it in and I will confirm the order with you. Click here to go to our fax order form: www.clearviewshields.com/contact.htm

Thank You,

CHOOSING THE CORRECT HEIGHT SHIELD IF YOU PREFER TO LOOK OVER THE SHIELD:

When looking over the shield, the ideal height would be to just see over the top of the shield by about 2". You should be able to look over the top edge of the shield and see the ground 50 feet in front of the bike while sitting in your normal riding position on a level surface. It is a good idea to have someone hold a tape measure up the shield while you are sitting comfortably on your bike and see where that height is.

At this height, the shield will be tall enough to get the air flow up and over you, making a nice pocket behind the shield, while still having a Clear-view over the top.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT HEIGHT SHIELD IF YOU PREFER TO LOOK THROUGH THE SHIELD:

If you prefer through the shield for the quietest ride and most protection, it is good to have the top of the shield 2"-3" above your line of sight so you are not looking right at the top of the shield. This will also give the passenger a quieter pocket.

The only way to really get rid of most of the wind is with a fairing... Even the much bigger shield on my Harley was no match for my ride out to Vegas... Just too much wind whips around the corners and over the top.... so now I'm looking for fairings for both the Harley and my 06 SM... and I usually ride with a full face helmet...
