As I am selling my America I am now looking for a new bike more in the Sport-Cruiser class. The Tiger 07 seems to fit this bill. I am interested in it for long rides. I know its a tall bike. I am 5.9 so I am hoping it will work for me. Anyone have issues with the height and are there lowering links for it?
How is the ABS on this bike? Any negatives you are aware of?
Thanks.

Ha! I sat on one. Feet didn't hit the floor. Went no further.

Have you been to Tiger1050.com? I took a demo ride on one and liked everything about it except for the pegs....too far back for my tastes. I'm almost 6 foot with a 31" inseam, and while the Tiger gets you up higher off the ground, it wasn't a problem at stop lights.

I rode one during the open house a week or so back. I really liked the bike, but it is tall. I'm 5'11" and I was on my tip-toes at lights (wearing engineer style boots).
Overall I thought it was a great bike and could easily see doing a lot of long riding on it. Others mentioned during their rides on the demo day that the rear brake felt a little soft, which I would have to agree with. Or at least at first I did, but by the end of my 30 minute ride or so, I didn't seem to notice it as much. I would guess there would be an adjustment to make it feel a little more firm.

Looking for similar machine myself for longer distances but don't want a full blown tourer. Love the BA but missing the Yamaha TDM 850. At the UK Bike show in November last year I had a sit on the Tiger, the BMW R 1200 GS, Yamaha TDM 900, Suzuki V Strom 1000 and Honda Varadero and found the TDM the most comfortable - and, like the 850, the only one I can get both feet flat on the ground (I'm 5'9"). I believe they are bringing out a new model this year tho'. At the moment I'm waiting to get a test ride on a Benelli TRE 1130 K. Three cylinder sports tourer/ street bike. http://www.onyerbike.net/benelli/tre1130k.htm ...If they have sorted the reliability issues out ! Love the looks but need to get a feel for the riding position. The TDM was one comfortable bike with sharp steering, and it could keep up with most sports bikes on the twisty's. The BMW F 800 ST looks nice.
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Height is an issue but I read in the other thread (bradlyd) that it can be lowered with lowering links.
I also read that luggage and center stand are optional in 07. It can get pricey.

I am slightly confused, some people have said they wouldnt mind a Tiger for longer rides. How much longer do you want to go that we can't on our bikes? In my opion, we could ride our bikes just as long or longer.

Excellent point Soren. We need to qualify 'longer rides'. We rode about 500 miles in one day (help me out here moe, Ryan) going up to GA 2-3 years ago. It was a great ride and I could have gone more but we were running back roads and ran out of daylight. I guess if you are constantly on the slab to get there you might need something extra?
I don't.

The feet forward riding position puts a lot of weight on the base of the spine so I'm always glad when I have to stop to refuel after about 130 miles.
With the TDM, body weight is distributed across the thighs and butt so refuelling after 130 miles is a chore !
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

It's all about fit. I love my bike, never get rid of it, but I have a time/mile limit too between breaks and for the day. No support from the feet, ya know? Kinda like the Jeep Liberty I used to have. I could sit in it all day, but other co-workers of mine who drove it hated it. Didn't fit their tuckus.

Have not tried out the Tiger but I sat on a silver Moto Guzzi, Norge a couple of weeks ago. It felt really comfortable. It was not as sporty feeling as the Triumph Sprint. Workmanship, fit and quality was also very good. The owner of the dealership (which is also the Triumph dealership) said if I bought that day he would knock $1000 off the MSRP of $14,899. I told him I didn't have my checkbook but would come back for a test ride

the new tiger is awesome, the riding position is perfect! the only change i would make is to drop it an inch or two... we'll see how the lower seat is when it comes off of back order.

Test ridden it three times now and I have to own up..... the "inbetween" cruiser is not coming until 2008 and I have been tempted across to the dark side of water cooling and EFI. order and deposit on Monday....... new Tiger.. White no extras other than an aftermarket pipe. I'm 5'11 3/4" and can get both feet comfortably down(not tiptoes) at lights , couldn't do that on earlier model Tiger! This should put me on until mid 2008! The Rocket option was just tooooo much for now. Still adore the Speedy but time to move forward. Cheers, Mike

Soren, The longest day ride I've made on my TBA is 700 miles. I was a bit tired. I still plan on a 1000 mile ride for my IBA certificate, but would much rather do it on a bike designed for the task. The forward controls alone are enough to beat you up on a long ride. I have ridden over 1100 miles in a day on my old GoldWing and felt great at the hotel that night (before the Iron Butt Association). I think I can ride from Alabama to your place in 2 days, but I'll be wore slap out when I get there. Touring bikes are made for touring, and our "boulevard cruisers" ain't a touring bike. But I'll never sell this gorgeous ride.
Ride Safe,
Dennis

Hey, one of those Tiger was/is mine!
I was there (Libby's) Saturday morning to pick the beast up. Gold (aka Scorched yellow) with ABS, side hardbags, center stand, and heated grips.
The Tiger rides really nice...can't wait to get throught the break-in period.
A totally different feel then my trusty Speedmaster (which I think is a little jealous).

Oh, and I have a lousy pic in the PhotoPost gallery under my name (bradleyd).
I'll brake out the good camera later and take pics of both bikes.

I stopped at the dealer and sat on one today. I'm not short nor light(6,1,230) but was barely able to flat foot, actually more of 1 flat, 1 toe. Its a nice looking bike, but they were crowing about the after market pipe sound, I don't it didn't do it for me. I didn't have any riding gear so it was only a sit and look. I actually would prefer the old sytle with the rapalla looking gas tank. And an off road feel.

Here's a pic of one of those old style tanks I'm selling if you're interested

I rode pne for the heck of it. Didn't like it before I got on it so I may be scewed before hand but I found it uncomfortable and hated the way it looked. Now I am a guy who thinks of 250 to 300 miles as a short days put and I couldn't imagine riding in that position for even 100 miles. But it is ultimately your choice. For what you seem to want I would look at the Rocket if ya wanna stay Triumph if not then BMW.
