Just few phrases.
New into this forum.
'04 Harley Sportster 1200 Custom and Kawasaki ZRX1200 owner.
A past of motocross and crono-climbing races. A past of motorcycle mechanic.
My brother owns a Thruxton and I'll buy a Speedmaster (preferably a '05-'07 864cc) when the Harley has been sold.
I've owned some bikes, GSF400 Bandit, Vulcan 1500 Classic, Suzi Marauder 800, 600 Ninja (for tracks), ZRX1100.
My girfriend rides a Suzi Savage LS650.
I live in Italy - Verona (the Romeo and Juliet city).
I want to learn and absorb like a sponge any kind of culture and infos about this bikes, so I'll disturb you a lot with tech questions, and add something comeing from my experience.
I hope you'll forgive me if sometimes I'll have that Professor pose, or abrupt manner if I'll read and correct something wrong in some tech posts...
Bye. Robert (Mr. Mechano)

Why it's Robert! Welcome Robert!
(sorry...I'm just that kind of jerk that just has to show his knowledge of Shakespeare...don't you just hate guys like that?)
You sound like a guy who's really into motorcycling. Well buddy, you couldn't have found a better place to "talk bikes" than THIS loose-knit rabble of enthusiasts.
Once again, WELCOME!!!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I've been into mechanic and races. Now I'm becoming old... And after a wheeling life with 100+bhp bikes I want a more phylosophical way of motorcycling... I suffered some falling and bone braking in past, but it didn't hurt me, after "bone repairing" I was riding again. Now the age is pushing me into an "I love the life and it can be better enjoyed with the right bike" dimension. After heavy bikes, slow bikes, powerful bikes, road burners bikes, I want to find the "intelligent" bike! For the intelligent bike is a bike that does everything good and is into the middle for price, power, maintenance, parts prices. Does it exists the intelligent bike? Here in Italy I live in the land of the tracks, races, and sport bikes: Ducati, MVAgusta, Guzzi, Aprilia and lot of other bike brands that have made the story of motorcycling and races. It seems that everybody what to be like Valentino Rossi or Loris Capirossi, but I want to enjoy the Alpes and their landscapes more than running thru the curves waiting for the next falling... I like the Speedmaster, but its 1655mm wheelbase tells me it's not an enjoyable bike in twisties when i get some. The Sporty with 1535mm (60.4") is still handleing bike but I hate its problems (oil leak, SAE threads/bolts, expensive parts) vibrations are good but make me tired after long riding. My brother tells me to buy a Thruxton, but I want a more relaxing driving position. So I'm still in doubt between the Speedmaster and a Bonneville Black/T100... Sincerely.

Maybe I've been a bit snob...
I liked 4 cyl and in Italy only MVAgusta is doing 4 cyl bikes. I wanted a cruiser but I didn't like the back feet position of Guzzi because of the outer cylinders. The only Ducati I liked was the Monster.
Now Benelli has a nice 3 cyl bike. And Ducati is doing a nice retro Thruxton-like bike.

Welcome Robert. Everyone knows that a red and black SpeedMaster is the most intelligent bike made. It has to be red and black for sure. Just look at the above banner. It's the only one with the badge Triumph going in the correct direction

Buon giorno Mechano! There are forums in Italia that are for Triumph motorcycles, if you haven't found them yet. Triumphchepassione.com and bandebonnisti.it. But you're definitely welcome here. Hope you enjoy your stay.

I disagree with the comment about no fun in the twisties. I love pushing my 04 Speedmaster to the limit and it handles quite well although it isn't a sport bike nor would I want it to be. I am used to riding a hardtail with a LONG springer front end with very little in the way of breaks so I guess almost anything would handle well to me!! LOL But I think thats half the fun. Always kinda wanted one of the Ducati V twin 650s

feel free to revisit this comment, after you've come abroad and spent some time leanin' her over*, in the mountains of north Georgia.
*i'm referring the Speedmaster or America.

personally I don't think that parts for Harleys are more expensive that others brand , there's lot of choice on vendors that offer spare parts, just check how many specific catalog are on the market today.. leakin' oil? what kind of Sporty do you talk about? must be an Iron Head or a piece of junk from the 80's, don't really know any new sporstster that loose olio.. Myself never got me a one but I owned four shovelhead the past 19 years and I know several guy's that ride new sporty.. Saluti dalla Germania

....keep the motor runnin' !
