According to Pingel, stock petcocks have a flow rate of only 28 ounces a minute. Let's figure that one out. 28 times 60 (minutes in an hour) equals 1680 ounces, or 13.125 GALLONS per hour. If our bikes are using more fuel than that, I'd check for leaks, not a problem with the petcock, IMHO...

The stock petcocks will only flow at that rate if you can turn them to "run". The flow is not the issue. The stock petcocks have been known to freeze up. Some guys don't have the problem. Some of us just bought the Pingel because it doesn't lock up and it looks better.

The Grump is right I bought my pingel because my stock petcock was very hard to turn on. I had to use a lot of force to get it to go onto reserve. The Pingel is a one finger operation, plus it's chrome.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

My stocker developed a leak. Any time it was switched to the on position it had a fairly steady drip. The pingel is much nicer than the stock valve. In every way, even if it doesn't provide a performance increase.

I got rid of the stocker and got the Pingel because the stocker leaked (into the outlet hose)and was hard to turn. The Pingel is great.

I have noticed mine sticking a bit, something I attributed to the cold weather, but other than that, I don't see the "performance" advantage they (Pingel) or any other after market company claims. Just a thread for reflection, or was it deflection?

Absolutely correct observation. I still have my stock one, but I did have to free it up with pliers once. The Pingel is on my list, but a ways down. 80 some odd bucks is a lot for something that isn't needed yet. Once I need it tho, I'll get it!

OdieKyle, the other advantage to the Pingle is if you ever have to repair it(due to leaks or sticking) it is easier to repair(you have to buy a new unit) than the stocker.......Angelis

When I have air in my clear fuel lines*, which is fairly often when I run a two fuel tank setup, I can watch the flow of fuel, as dictated by the action of the floats. The flow of fuel is intermittent, not constant.
*Air in the fuel lines usually does not cause any problems if a slight prime is maintained. The bowls don't know the difference, and operate at ambient air pressure (plus maybe a little more for the weight of the fuel?) on the supply side anyway. It doesn't take much fuel to fill the bowls, and I expect the floats call for fuel long before the carbs would draw air from the bowls.

Janet's relatively brand new T100's petcock leaks about 1 drop per minute. Whenever I remove the tank, I jam a piece of rubber tubing on it with a bolt stuck in the other end. Annoying at best, dnagerous at worst.
Mine also leaked and that was one reason I switched to the Pingel.

My stock petcock does hang up somewhat. It did start leaking say 10,000 miles ago. I disassembled it.Installed a new o-ring and a little grease. So far, knock wood she doesn't leak. She has 28,000 miles now. I have considered the Pingel and now that I wrote this tomorrow it will start leaking(I hope not)!!! She's an 2005 and blue, carb and exhaust mods.
