Thursday night about 11pm the wife comes in and says her left arm is numb and she has chest pain. Off to the ER in record time, took her in took her back and did EKG, and wired up with a nifty wiring harness that could measure eveything. Doc comes in after looking at her EKG and says that he is pretty sure it isn't her heart, but he wants to da a stress test. All this within the first hour, were both relieved, and she feels better. All we have to do is wait on the stress test and we leave with a clean bill of health. I had just been through this with my Mother a couple of weeks ago, and thought I was prepared for anything. The ER doc says he is a cardioligist and orderd the test. We wait 2am, 3am, 4am nothing. We ask to see the doc, He's gone. New doc comes in he can't do anything, he has to wait for a cardiologist. Her primary doc comes in at 11am and says the stress test was never ordered and only the cardilogist can order the test. WTF happened to doc we saw when we first came in? Long story short she had the stress test and was fine, her heart is in great shape, and she was released at 6pm Friday night. Cause, Acid reflux, cure purple pill. Thankfull it wasn't anything serious, and now it is time for lots of green beverage

Only 18 hours? Wow that was quick. At least you didn't have to wait in the waiting room for 12 of those hours. Could have been worse, we've had people addmitted but still in the er for 22 hours waiting for a bed on a med floor.

18 hours, you would still be stuck in the waiting room at our local hospital/ER.

Glad to hear everything worked out fine, but you are better off not taking any chances no matter how long await you have at the hospital/ER

I actually work in an ER and i'm sad to say that yes wait times in ED's do suck, not atypical at all. What they didn't mention and probably should have done/told you is that cardiac enzyme tests have to be drawn initially and then again in 6 hours but the results won't come back for atleast an hour after that. So after check in, triage, drawing labs, results, the md to have a chance to look at the results and review everything that accounts for atleast 9hrs of your visit. The other 9hrs....who knows..sorry. GERD (as well as other things) can mask itself as cardiac conditions and especially in women who have atypical symptoms to begin with. The good news is that everyone is healthy and thank goodness for that!!! In many cases she would have stayed 24hrs for observation so look at the bright side, you actually saved 6 whole hours !!! Take care and glad you could enjoy some saint patties day brews together... and healthy!

I can understand the chest pain, but numbness in the left arm from indigestion, sounds fishy, I hope she's ok.

Kim and I spent 13 hours in the ER when her gal bladder went. Most of that just waiting and not knowing. THAT is the worst part. If it is 3am and we can't get an ultrasound till 7am, TELL US!

CRAZY! My Pops had a serious heart attack in December! He is doing great now but he sacred the crap out of us. About a month ago I had the same thing. I'm 34 years old, in fair health and could not get rid of this nagging pain in my chest. I went to the hospital and they poked, prodded and tested. I had acid reflux. WHEW!

Good to know your wife is OK!
