Hey guys- I recently cleaned out my carbs because the bike sat down for a while and it was running like crap. Since then the bike has been fine, I ride it near everyday and everything is hunky-dory. Today after a short ride to Lowe's, when I got back on it the bike started backfiring/popping out of the right exhaust pipe. When I got it home the entire right exhaust was dark blue and smoking big time. I've changed out the plugs recently (when i cleaned the carbs). I have no clue whats causing this, any ideas?

You have an intermittent or complete loss of spark on the one side - check that the plug wire is popped on completely at both ends. It should "click" on the plug to be seated completely. Also check that the four coil wires are all nice and secure. Dill's bike did the same thing - toasted the pipe completely - no fix to it after that, he had to buy new pipes.

thanks for the info pat. I'm on my way to go check that now although I'm pretty sure everything is secure. Its okay if my pipes are done with because I have a set of bubs on order and a cold air intake. Benny- no freak for me, but one is on the way from british-customs.

Pat- my hat is off to you, you know your bikes. It was indeed one of the four coil wires had rattled off. It seems that the connector may be damaged as it slides on and off of the terminal very easily, it doesn't snap/clip/grab on like the other 3. Is this a simple fix? Easy as cutting the end off and splicing a new one on?

BF, You can use a small set of needle nose and re-tighten the little connector usually. If not, just buy a new one at autozone and crimp it on in about 2 minutes.
