Hi Gents,
New Guy here. Yesterday I put a deposit on a new left over 06 Bonnie Black (790cc). It was discounted just over $1200 compared to an 07 (865cc).
Now I'm starting to have second thoughts and I'm wondering if I should just pony up the extra money for the 07.
In real world riding is there really that much of a difference?
To add to my indecision the dealer offered me a $500 gift certificate if I buy the 07.

Thanks

Cliff

ditto, for me it would be the 06 and 1200 in the bank.

And the pretty spoked wheels too

I would say that in day to day riding most would not be able to tell the difference. Now if you are talking about 300 or 400 CC difference that is another story.

If you have the $1200.00 cash spend it on a bore, aftemarket pipes, drill your airbox and re jet it. Money well spent.

I'd go with the '06. The bikes assembled and shipped from England may be worth more some day.

Base your decision on which one looks better, because there isn't much difference in the engine performance.

Of course if you really want the top of the line, you'd be looking at a Speedmaster.

He also said he was going to get $500 towards accessories if he bought the 07. I'd buy the 07 for the blacked out motor alone, and forget spokes, I need radial tires, but the Speedmaster is the way to go

I would go with the 06 and use the 1200 on after market parts, believe me once you get oit you are going to want to add bits to it.

The freak kit was the best investment I have made so far it really opens it up.

Hey Big Poppy, I had the Freak on my 04 TBA, and it did help alot, but it seemed to be kinda noisy, not sure if I'll do it to my Speedy yet.

I'd go for the one you like the best. You get $500. free stuff if you get the 07 which you'll probably want to spend on either, so the real difference is $700. Once you pull the AI, get better pipes and re-jet, there won't be much difference in the engine. As far as resell value, I don't know if the made in England will make any difference, but the extra year of depreciation will.

Your intentions for a resale interval could play a role, for example, an 07 would theoretically be worth more in 24 months than an 06. Otherwise, I doubt there's any noticeable difference between the two displacements.

Uh guys? Cliff is talking about a Bonneville, not an America or Speedmaster. They have spoked wheels on both the 06 and 07.

The 790 is a great motor as is the 865. With about $600 in aftermarket parts (exhaust, K&N filter, and a Dynojet kit), either will be very fast. However, it sounds like if you go for the 07, you will have to buy Triumph parts with the $500, right? Will your dealer install aftermarket parts?

So you can get some Triumph goodies for that or save the $1200 and install aftermarket parts with the savings...

Tough choice. Glad I don't have to make it!

btw, welcome to the site.

I have an 05 790 Bon Black. It will out run any stock 865, 900 speedmaster, or 900 thruxton. It will also our run many of those bikes with the average mods. Now, I'm not saying it doesn't have some mods, but that 1200$ you gonna save on it can go a real long way in the mod department, and you'll get much more preformance from the bike.

You'll also get a metal front fender on the 06, as the 07 has gone to plastic. The trade off is the tires. The 06 has Bridge bricks, and the 07 Metzlers (radial rear, bias front)

If you want more info on the standard and T-100 Bon, hit the delphi forums for the Bonnie. Hard core standard Bon group with some great people. You can also drop me a PM if you want some info on my mods.

Hope it's OK to plug the other forum. This one is by far the best for the TBA, and TSM. Their tops for the Standards.......

Well Folks, the vast majority of you recommended I continue with my purchase of the 06 Bonnie Black and use the money saved for goodies. That’s what I’ll be doing.
In the near future I plan on purchase of the British Customs Triumph Bonneville Basic Performance Package. It includes the BC Predator Exhaust, BC Air Box Removal Kit, jets and AI Elimination kit. Seems like a hard deal to pass up.
Thanks again.

Your also going to want to change you countershaft sprocket by 1 tooth at least. You will lose very little bottom end, and it works wonders when at highway speeds with a lower rev. Opens up the top end too.

Ya made a good choice...........
