I have wanted mine off for quite some time. Who has stripped them off? Any advise or lessons learned? Whats under them? Do I need to buy an after market boot/cover?
I would apreicate any input you might have.

If you are referring to the Stainless upper and lower fork shrouds the answer is yes, many others have removed them. Underneath is the chrome plated fork tubes. Some have installed the rubber gaiters on the lower legs for an old school look.

It is advisable to put something over or guard the lower part of the tubes where they slide into the lower fork legs. If a rock should happen to ding your fork slides there, it could slice into a fork seal causing it to leak. There's different ways to safeguard the tubes...from gaiters that Brent sells, to stone guards like the ones that come standard on the regular Bonnevilles, or some chrome fork boot caps(Harley parts sources are good here as they have a few models with the same 41mm fork tubes we have). Gaiters are the most popular though. Brent used a couple of pics of my bike to showcase the ones he sells. Installation is fairly straight forward. Just jack up the bike and strap it down, then do one fork leg at a time.

FYI the lower tree will look REAL big once you remove them, but I like the clean look. I have fork protectors from a Tbird.

From someone over on triumphrat.net. They are actually intended for smaller diameter forks, but they have screw adjusters which are most of the way out. They also let you put them on without taking the forks off as opposed to the bonnie ones which are one solid loop, and I think smaller.

I'd like to know more about this. Like, what holds 'em on?

Hey Benny, It looks like you left the top ones on. How come?
Upon a closer look did you cut your old fender or pull one off of a stock Bonneville?

I left the top ones on because they are smaller than the bottom ones, and removing them makes the tripple trees look REALLY big, especially the bottom one. If I can ever get that milled down, or get a replacement, I'll remove the top shrouds.
The fender is a Speedy fender.

I ran some on my bike for a few months before going to the gaiters. The ones I had were held in place by set screws.

Looks good. I thot setscrews were a possibility but pics of harley parts didn't reveal that.

I like that look! I think I'm going for the gators though. It looks more old school. My buddy put Gators on his Harley and told me to go to the autoparts store to buy them. I guess you can get them at a fraction of the cost. He has the same 41 mm front end on his.

Wait...Don't you have to take the forks off to get the Shrouds off anyway? Or am I missing something.

Yes you are right. I did have to drop the forks... Oh well Unless you wanted to cut the shrouds off!

One of the benefits to gaiters over the fork guards or dust covers is that it lessens the large look of the lower triple tree. Brent's gaiters are only $29.95 for a pair, and in over 2 years haven't dry rotted. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

I know someone put gators top and bottom. I can't find the photo in the PhotoPost, but they looked good.
