Got my Black S/M 6 months ago. Slowly but surely, funds permitting, got add-ons over the coming months , screen, slash cut straight thru pipes, sissy bar and finally panniers. Took the afternoon off work to fit the panniers. I now had the bike as I wanted it. Took the bike out on a test ride AND GOT T_BONED within 10 minutes out!! The bike is a mess. I can't believe it, just as the good weather is coming along.
The silver lining is that even though I was just going around the block I put all my gear on and got away with minor cuts, grazes and bruising. The cops tell me the driver who came out of a side road has admitted responsibility - he did not see me ( What! the head light is as bright as a WW2 search light)Just waiting for the insurance assessors to check on the damage and see if it is a right off or can be repaired. I hope I don't miss the summer.Looks like I will have to wait a bit longer to meet up with the UK members on a ride-out.

I missed the end of last summer due to a similar accident. I was lost my bike and was laid up for while. Glad you came out in better shape. Very, very, lucky you are.

Just glad you are "OK" you lucked out on that one.

Hopefully they settle quickly and you get the bike back quickly.

Well Jon, I don't know if "ironic" would exactly be the right word to describe your bad luck here.
(oh you Brits and your typically understated manner)

You see, over on THIS side of the pond we Yanks would propably use another word for your misfortune, and would probably phrase your rhetorical question a little differently. Probably something along the lines of...."DOESN'T THIS SUCK???!!!!"

Good to hear that you're okay, though!

Cheers,
Dwight
(hope everything is expedited and that your riding season doesn't become a wash)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

It's always the way...

And it'll be written off. I guarantee it. Been there done it....just waiting for the pay out for the injury claim...

Claim for injury and use the money to pay for the new one to be exactly as you want it instead. Buy the salvage and either break for spares and ebay or repair yourself.

See why all the kit all the time is important...

But glad you are ok.

I would much rather your bike be down than you. Very happy you can type the message. They made a lot of bikes but only one you.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but glad to hear you came out of it in fairly well condition. I would request the bike be estimated by a dealer tech. Insurance people always miss important stuff.

I've had an America, and a Speedmaster come through the shop in the past few months that each had been in minor accidents. Both bikes were totaled. It's amazing how fast parts and labor add up.

Sorry to hear that news Jon. Glad you're OK but know what it's like to get your pride and joy wrecked - been there before, about the same time of year also! I don't know whether it's something to do with folks not conditioned to look out for bikes as much after Winter or just crap drivers in general, you got to watch them though they're buggers! Hopefully won't be too long before you're back in the saddle again.
Where abouts in York are you BTW? RodYork, BeanoGB live close by, we should meet up once you're sorted.

I think you deserve a "Loaner". Maybe a Rocet III or something!

Exactly...that would fall under the category of dumb luck. Kinda like the song where the only ironic thing is that there is absolutely no irony involved at all. "Rain on your wedding day"...only ironic if you're a weather man.

Dammit of all the songs I could have stuck in my head this monday after DST weekend. That shouldn't be it. That whole song had very little irony.

Glad you're OK. Your riding gear made a difference, I'm sure. Lately heard of a couple of mishaps where gloves or jacket would have minimized injury. Wish everyone would take that more seriously.

Gina was right. Just got the call from the assessors telling me that the bike is a total loss. Didn't really want it back anyway. Now just waiting for the insurance company to let me know what they indent doing. My bike was only 6 months old and the policy says I should get a new bike. I am not holding my breath as I am sure they will be looking at saving themselves some money. At least they came to a decision within a week of the carsh. Hopefully won't have to wait an age to get on the road again.

They should cover the cost of a new OEM bike but think they might let you down on the add-ons unfortunately. Think most insurance companies try and get out of that one...sods! . You'll have to check your policy. Best of luck and hope it works out to your satisfaction.

I'm glad you got a quick decision. It seem to take forever for them to decide over mine. I was riding a Bandit as a loaner for what seemed like forever. And I hated it. I guess you're fully comp on the insurance....I wasn't (but I am now) and so was waiting while their insurers decided...
While I am rebuilding the front of the the 03... buy back the salvage. I paid 500quid for mine....strip it down and sell the servicable bits on ebay!

Well at least you had the gear on John and no major problems with yourself, the bike can be mended or replaced. Just make sure you get a good deal from the insurance company..
