well , I really can't count this one as it has no matching front fender. But , I have 4 sets in the other room, and the set on the bike. So , it could be 5 sets if I had a front fender. But who's counting. almost going to be a shame to cut it up , in the name of progress.

actually I was thinking of wider and longer , shooting for 6 gallons. but I don't want it to look fat and crappy, so it will take some experimenting.

no, just an ebay addict
Just a little joke for you Pete.
I've got 3 gas tanks and 2 front fenders myself with all of the spares bought off of ebay, so I know where you're coming from. And I always enjoy seeing your creations. Looking forward to what you come up with for the bigger tank.

The sick part of me is just wondering what all these tanks would sound like as a set of wind chimes.

I was thinking some kind of Steel Drum set.

So you are also collecting frames them? All this time I figured you were just going to be swapping them out on the same bike! I say start with the bobber

I have a trike frame and a long springer . I could always cut the rear section from the trike frame and weld it to an America frame add the springer. that could be fun

Would you have to rake the springer way out if you used a Triumph frame?

Nope, you can get springers as short as you want. It probably would take some machining of the headstock though to get almost any springer to fit. Here's a couple of old Triumphs with a fairly stock length springers on them.
My personal tastes though tun towards a non springer front end. Like this style:
If you'd like to look around and find all kinds of front ends and just different builds for old Triumph bobbers, check out the Jockey Journal board. It's a great source if you're looking for ideas. Just about anything can be made to fit if you find a good machinist/builder.
edit: and after all that I finally went back and saw Pete's post about the long springer. Oh well/ You can either chop the frame just in back of the headstock and increase the rake, or have a new frame built.

I'm glad I read YOUR whole post about springers before replying with the long springer thing Cool bikes tho!! I like girders more than springers anyway. My mountain bike has a girder.
