Anybody willing to share experience with the Bonneville America 2007? I will get mine on Saturday March 10. How long is the "break in" period? How fast can I ride during that time? How often is it best recommended to change oil/filter etc?

Also, just wandering - I currently ride Kawasaki Vulcan 800A. Anybody else can compare the 2 bikes?

Not to many people around here with 07's but welcome to the site, you'll find good advise and good people.
You'll hear a lot of opinions on break in, key I think is dont hold same throttle position for too long. You want to be off and on it.
The percentage you're paying is too high-priced

yep, go as fast as you want as long as you vary your speed. Change first oil at about 500 miles. Throw away the Air Induction stuff in front of the spark plugs then read all the money you can spend if you want doing other things.
Welcome, congrats on your new bike.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I have an '07 America too! Unfortunately, between medical school and bitter weather I've only put 45 miles on it since January 5. I have waxed it about 4 times, taken a bunch of stuff apart, and am eagerly awaiting better weather!

oneijack is correct. The most important thing when breaking in an engine is to vary your RPM's. This is so you don't form ware ridges from constant lower RPM's in the first 500 miles. I recomend not doing over 65 mph in the first 250 to 300 miles. Let it rip for the next 200.
With constant lower RPM's tiny ridges can form in the cylinder bores. Then when you start doing higher RPM's these tiny ridges cause undue ware on the rings. It's often the cause of oil consumption higher then normal.

Zohar, Welcome aboard. How long were you on the Vulcan and what motivated the move to the America?

Welcome Zohar!
Starting to get in a few rides here in Cincinnati. Might be in the 60's next week! I'll try to send some your way.
Hooray!

Welcome Zohar. Your bike should come with an owner's manual that has all the maintenance intervals inside. This little book is kept under the seat in an open compartment. If your bike doesn't have it, mention it to the dealer.

Vary your throttle and change out the break in oil at 500 miles or so. I kept it around 65 and below for the first 1000 miles. I've had no problems with my engine since new and she runs like a bat out of hell. You want to give the rings and such a chance to seat properly before pushing it hard. Change your oil at recommended intervals and keeps the valves adjusted. Your bike should last a good long time. Enjoy!
