First run on my sprocket cover project is complete. The verdict is out on the paint finish. I may strip it and powder coat in the future.
The silver and blue metal flake matches some other parts I have redone. The end of the piece had approx 2 inches removed and the shape of the cut is the exact copy of the solo finisher/peg hanger I made.
I will attempt to post the pic from my album. Please afford feedback on the finish. I' [image]http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6256&sort=1&cat=500&page=1[/image] m thinking I could do better.
Somehow I think that link may not work......

So it's easy for every one else to see....

And has given me food for thought...

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Looks good.

Are the ribs polished or painted?

The ribs are polished. My friend's buffer is on the fritz so I had to do them by hand. If I change from paint to powder coat they will remain polished aluminum. We experimented with high temp tape and you can mask off when using powder coat.

Looks like a good idea, and it would match you engine very well. I have a suggestion for when you powdercoat, maybe you should powdercoat the whole cover and then re-sand and polish the fin's after paint. Or best option would be to mill the fins after powdercoat so they are exactly like your engine.

When I get around to powder coating it, the entire piece will be glass blasted. The ribs will be polished and taped off. I would mill them, but thought there could be problems milling because there is a slight radius to the part, it's not completely flat across the face.
'Course if all else fails......start from scratch on another one! lol

that cover looks good! I took a razor blade to the ridges on my cover and scraped the paint off to the aluminun to get kinda the same look except my lines are 1/16" t0 1/8" thick. The cover now kinda looks like the engine does---thanks for the idea-----cliff

Nice work, it feel better to make parts than to buy parts to make it your own. Good job!

I agree I love the feel when I make a part , put it on,, and it looks good. Much more satisfiing than out of the box stuff.
