Well, I did it. I sold my 2004 TBA and bought a HD. I did not sell the TBA because I was unhappy with it, only because I wanted a touring bike to comfortably travel distance. I refused to pay HD dealer prices so I found one with 13 miles on ebay. The transaction was flawless and I actually sold the TBA on ebay also. I almost feel that I have betrayed everyone on this site along with my Triumph dealer. Triumph is just missing out on the touring segment, because my new HD Street Glide has wind protection, factory storage, stereo, cd player, and I installed electronic cruise control. Well, I hope someday I can be forgiven. Thanks for all the good input, discussion, and website. Remember, I don't care what you ride, just as long as you do! See you on the road, Brian [image] http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6242[/image]

ditto! i too love the TBA. i have looked at victory, concourse, honda st1300,fj1300 and several others. i like the idea of riding triumph and i like the bike. it is not made for long distance or two up for distance. i'm going to try the georgia rally. that will tell me which way to go. my wife doesn't enjoy the ride even though the bike will do it.. triumph where are you? trophy 1600??

Don't beat yourself up. You really deserve to ride what fits your needs, tastes, or whatever moves you - and know you aren't the only person to make the switch. Best of luck with the new ride and don't let the fact that you no longer have a Triumph stop you from staying in touch with those that you've made friends with here - Who knows, you'll probably need someone to rescue you along some road - Sorry, just kidding - I couldn't resist. Again, and in all seriousness - Best of luck and enjoy.

Brian, good luck! Don't feel bad. If the new big Triumph Twin cruiser isn't forthcoming in another year or two I'll be looking into something like a Victory. However, I won't be able to part with my Speedmaster. Ride safe.

It was hard parting with the TBA, but the day before I picked up the HD we found out the wife was pregnant. I had both bikes for about three weeks. I don't mind fighting every once in awhile, but I did not want to fight the battle to have two bikes with a hormonal pregnant woman.

It is huge segment that Triumph has been missing for a few years now (since they killed the Trophy). I know a few people that are Triumph fans, but have bought Yamaha Ventures, various harleys or other bikes set-up for touring because Triumph does nothave anything. For these people, just slapping bags and a windshield on the Rocket would not do the trick, they want all the bells and wistles of a road tourer (mostly because they do a lot of traveling with their wives).

Yeah, I rented a Street Glide, but the bike on that pic has a screen!
The one I rented had some stoopid piece of plastic about 2 inches tall that was neither use nor ornament.
In fact it was a hindrance!
With your visor up, the turbulence tried to rip my head off.
That slightly taller screen would have been more useful.
Oh yeah, like I said at the time, it's a bloody comfortable bike to ride.
We'll forgive it the fact it shakes like buggery on tick over though
Also, let's not forget it has an FM radio and cd player with iPod plug-in socket thingy
Good luck with your new bike Brian, ride safe mate.

bdrav, I know exactly how you feel. I waited three years on Triumph. I hope they read these posts. No touring bike. I also bought a 2006 left over HD Road King. I am getting a King tour pac and Cruise control. I just hope that Triumph wakes up. The Rocket engine and frame is just crying for a Gold wing body on it. Oh well, so be it.

Adey, The first thing I did was get different windshields. I have the six inch that you see in the pictures and a ten inch for longer trips. Both of the shields also extend about four inches further out on both sides for wider protection and better stereo sound. You can't beat the rear air ride suspension and I say that after having the Progressive suspension on my TBA. Brain

Jerry One suggestion, don't install the cruise control without a service manual. I installed my own but my wife had gotten me the manual for Xmas. Brian

Nice bike,But I would not want to ride it every day. It boils down to what kind of riding you do most. Or if you have extra money laying around you could buy bikes for every day of the week

I thought the Trophy or Tiger or one of those was intended for touring.

Greybeard Those Triumph models (Tiger or Trophy) might have been intended for touring but lack several key features that I was looking for, such as...
-full front fairing, wider than I am -standard locking hard bags -electronic true cruise control (not just throtle locking) -forward posotion floor boards (good for reconstructed knee) -standard crash bars (for optional highway pegs) -cd player -am/fm radio -weatherband radio -mp3 player input -air ride rear suspension -gas, oil pressure, volt meter, and ambient temp. gauges -passenger comfort -self cancelling turn signals -aftermarket detachable sissy bar (in 10 seconds) -stock tachometer -touring tires
Even with all these reasons why I went HD, I still miss the flat out coolness of my TBA. For those who are wondering the HD does handle very well at slow and high speed compared to any bike let alone a large bagger. I will still be waiting for Triumph's entry and then I will recondsider.

Triumph ain't the only one missing out on the touring theme. LOL! I've only owned 3 Harleys. They make great touring bikes if you're in great weather and only going 500 miles. If you're gonna ride a motorcycle, buy a motorcycle, not an ancient concept. So Long.

Dennis I picked up the HD September 30, 2006. Since then I already have 2400 miles (had 13 when I picked it up) on it and 200 was through the pouring rain. I had no ptoblems in the rain, nor did I on the TBA whenever I was riding in the bad stuff. I'm not real sure what the ancient concept is you are talking about? Ride safe, Brian

My dads harley has about 40,000 miles on it, a few trips to sturgis from new jersey and by the time he got beck he did 5200 miles in 10 days and 4 days was rain so I guess what I'm getting at is if your so worried about what everyone else rides and how cool you are for being different then dont ride at all cause thats the kind of people that nobody likes. I love my TBA and will have it for a long time but do I think its better then a Harley? No but I also dont think its worse, it has two wheels and lets me relax and enjoy myself just like a harley or a honda or a yamaha or even a vespa... sorry about the tangent and If I offended anyone I just hate hearing my bikes better and yours is liek everyone elses..

Your new street glide looks looks nice. You will enjoy it!
My riding buddy's bike looks just like it...he bought a new Honda VTX1300 ($7,038), bought HD bags and fairing and got them refinished and painted...added some HD slip-ons with a Mustang seat and highway bar.

Well I am sure everyone is hoping Triumph makes the new cruiser in an image that fits the vision so many want to see.
But I do believe the basic Speedie and America is just fine for one up touring minus all that ****** stuff like speakers, cd player, wide enveloped seats to fit the oversize keisters of your average over 50 Harley dudes.
The TBA is not a good option for two up ridin for the most part although many do go two up. They lack the grunt one might need for two up riding over long distances.
But they shore are pretty.

Brian and Tom, Just bustin on Brian because he left. I have a good friend who rides to Idaho every year from Alabama on a Heritage. Sweet bike. I don't care for HD as their engineering concepts are a bit elementary, like "if it breaks make it twice as big" and "wow, Porche designed us a really nice engine, let's put it in a crappy frame". I am just not impressed with them. I don't like sportbikes, but look at the engineering & design in the 675 Daytona. Triumph is cutting edge, and when they release a new tourer, I'll get one.
Ride Safe,
Dennis

I rode my TBA from Daytona Beach to Canandaigua and back. I have ridden to GA twice and will again in a few weeks. I had the time of my life. I have a shield, backrest, saddle bags, and solo seat rack. It was great in the mountains and on the slab. Why would I need a cd player? Anyway, have fun, and ride safe.

triumph needs a full tour "luxury" bike. if i had the $, i wd. consider a road king. i have heard the air ride is very good. bmw wd. be another ride i wd. think about. i have an old kaw voyager that's good (95,000 miles), and it's actually pretty fast, but some of the new bells and whistles on a rocket 3 wd. be sweet. enjoy the ride. cat http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/photopost/data/500/4891_voy-med.jpg

I still keep hearing rumors of Triumph introducing touring versions of one or more cruisers. A Rocket III Tourer would be an obvious choice. I really don't understand why they haven't done it before now.

"We have one" says the Triumph sales guy. They consider the R3 classic with a shield and bags to be a tourer. No no no. I'm not saying they need cupholders and a microwave, but at least SOME sort of fairing that could hold a radio, and some sort of detachable trunk box would make it viable.

Benny, I've still heard that there may be a "Tourer" in the works. Like you, I think it should have a faring in the front and hard bags/trunk, etc. They really need something to compete with the Gold Wings and BMW 1200T.
