I just received my risers and have a question, how do I remove the caps on the set screws without marring them ?
Thanks,
John

I took mine off and threw them away. I think seeing the bolts looks better. I'm thinking of getting chrome bolts.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

John I was real careful with mine at first too, then they started to chip anyway over time. Now I like the look of the bare bolt. The caps are just "chromed" plastic anyway, I think you can get actual metal plugs to replace them if you really want. I like the more techno look of socket head bolts.

Fingernail.
If you expose the bolts, coat the recess with clear nail polish or something similar - they will rust. Same goes for chromed bolts.

Best $28.00 I have spent so far, what a difference. I find I can sit all the way back in the seat now and the strain is off the shoulders.
Benny, you are right I like the bolt head look and threw the caps away.
Thanks everyone !!!

Big Poppy:
Which Risers did you go with? Did you have to change any cables or wires?

Iceman, I went with Jim's Spacers, and did not have to change anything, they look great like they were always there. Once I figured out how to pop off those caps, with help from Erwin and Benny, it took maybe 1/2 hour for the whole job. Just be careful not to let the bars turn over as air will get in the brake res. and you will be screwed. What I did was position the bike under the two rails on my garage door and used two 6' bungee cords attached to the brake and clutch lever hooked to the rails and they were just suspended out of the way. Here's his web site jim@spacerjim.com

Or, if you're set up for polishing (buffing), you can buff 'em out & they look great. Same goes for the button heads on the tank console. Same for risers themselves, but that's considerably more work - sanding off powder coat & all.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

OK Big Poppy, I have a set of Jim's spacers ordered and noticed in your posted article that you were talking about getting the "CAPS" off.... What caps are you talking about? Are the attachment bolts for the stock lower risers under a cap and if so what is recommended to remove them to facilitate installation of Jim's spacers?
