Just saw a picture of someones new polished ports and it wasn't what I expected to see. Didn't look like much of an improvement. Is this something that could be done with a dremel tool instead of sending it out to be done or am I missing something here?

Tom- there is a lot more to it. The exhaust side is polished. The intake should be swirled. Some material is removed. In some cases, depending on other mods, a lot of material is removed. Frank is right- if you have to ask, it is probably above your skill. Check out the british customs web site. they have some info on it and some ready to bolt on.

as a general rule, big hogged out ports are great for drag racing and full throttle fun, but on a street motor may you may lose a lot of power on the bottom end.

I'm assuming it's my pics you looked at, I told the machinist to do a light street port and polish. This is barely more than cleaning up burrs, bumps, and imperfections leftover from the factory casting of the head. They smooth out rough spots and give a light swirl to the intake side to improve fuel atomization, the exhaust side is polished smooth.

They didn't really remove much material, just a little reshaping and grinding and polishing.

Also the bigger your valves, the the more porting you can do.

when I bought my '60 bonnie the engine was all tore down and 2 of the ports had holes burned in them. The result of an amature port and polish attempt.way way before the internet.
