bonneville with SV650 front end and wheels

Ok, it's not a speedmaster or america, sorry. My bike is apart now being 904'd and I decided to get an SV650 front end and wheels because:

1. I needed new tires, chain, brakes, and sprockets anyway
2. 17'' sport bike black mag wheels look cool
3. triple discs rule
4. spokes break, inner tubes suck

2 friends of mine own SV650s so I measured everything and it was all pretty close to the bonneville as far as fork length including to the bottom of the tire so rake/trail won't be changed. It will be nice to have the Zrated sport bike rubber and 2 floating discs up front.

Here's a photoshopped version of what it will look like:

I'm going to get the motor back together and broken in before taking the front end off, but it should be done in the next 2 months. I want to call it a Speed Twin, and maybe get some carbon fiber parts like front fender, maybe side covers, etc.

Well it certainly looks different, will be interesting to see photo's of the bike when you have changed everything. Also let us know if you have any problems with the fitting of parts. And last but not least, what it handles like on the twisties

Hiya Jeffrey
I like the black headlight back - I plan on doing that when I get the America re-sprayed.
Wheels look great on there too.
Don't listen to any naysayers that WILL pipe up, it looks great.

IMO, it's your ride so you do what you want.
Not everyone will like it or agree with what you're going to do but it's yours and you do as you wish.

At the end of the day, it's still a Triumph at heart ...

Nice lookin' bike friend.
Finished pics needed when it's done.

I have never been a fan of 3 spoke wheels, prefer 5, BUT!! I think the idea is way cool and looks decent!

Now, that's how to customize a bike .
Should be a fascinating ride report when you're all done.

I think your ideas look bloody cool Sweatmachine. Half the fun of owning a bike is changing stuff and customizing it. Good luck and ride safe.

I will have the bathroom scale out in the garage when I do the swap to weigh everything going on and coming off the bike. I'm hoping they're lighter, they're aluminum so they may be lighter, but there's more rubber on the back wheel so it may be a bit heavier. I'm not going really fat on the back tire, I have a 160 mounted on my SV rear wheel now and I'll stick with that until it's worn out and go from there. Might go as big as a 170.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

my brother is a professional photographer and he thought it was real too! The picture was taken at my old house, I moved out of in November. I showed him the photoshopped pic last week and he said "why are you working on your bike at your old place?"

pretty funny.

Hey,
I love it. If I ever get a standard Bonneville, I'll look at doing the same. Keep us posted.
Will it be a Triuki? Or Suzukumph?

What did you coat your headers with? Ceramic or powdercoat?

neither, they're photoshopped!

I'm using BBQ black paint on them though, actually I already did it and it looks great. I know other guys that have used it with great success, and looks great years later, costs $5, and takes very little time to do, and is easy to touch up.

Be sure not to get any fuel on the BBQ paint. My fuel tap leaked and dripped down onto my pipes and disolved the paint!

BBQ paint, available at any major hardware store in the paint section. $5, has a BBQ pit on the can.

High Heat flat black BBQ paint. Be sure to get some sandpaper to scuff up the chrome before painting.

Thanks Jeff...I was looking at Dupli-Color high heat paint, but like a powdercoat, you hafta bake it at 300 for 2 hours. Don't think my headers can fit in my oven. I'll hit up Lowes this weekend and check out the BBQ paint.

Sounds like if you are gonna coat your pipes for sure for sure someday, then you got nothing to lose by spending 5 or 10 bucks, if it doesn't work then you can still get a pro job.

Exactly...thats what I was figuring...if it doesn't hold up like I hoped, I can always strip it off and get a pro ceramic coat done.

That should be tremendous, man. I will warn you, tho: the stock fork springs on the SV are notoriously light -- I know, I had one for years -- and if you're more than about 160 lbs you may wanna upgrade the springs and oil while you're at it.

Otheriwse, that is SCHAMOKIN! Get the pix up ASAP!

they are pretty upgraded.

I still have the motor apart for the 904 kit, won't have it back together for another 10-15 days but I'm going to start working on the front end and rear wheel this weekend, I think...

hey, someone's been digging through my photobucket!!!

The parts are at the machinist now, I should have them back in about 2 weeks, then reassemble which should take a weekend or 2. I'm hoping to have it rolling again in about 3-4 weeks.
