Woke up this morning to an empty driveway. Some one stole my truck last night.
'96 long wheel base, extended cab w/ about 151k on the clock, but well-kept, clean, and me not having any designs on trading for the next 5 years, at least.
Do have full coverage, though it isn't worth much.
I'm blaming the "KATRICIANS", as we call the Katrina refuges that still hang around here and contribute to our rising crime rate.
I think it's time I got a hand gun.....

Hold it, you live in Texas and you don't have a hogleg? Is that legal?
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Soren.... That's funny, but I don't want to laugh!! I had my hands full with my son from the age of 14, until he joined the US Army @ 19 !!!
BTW: He's off to see the World (Iraq) on the 25th.

Man, that's too bad. First thing I did was look to see where you live. Houston. I really worry about that here. Albuquerque has a lot more crime than I realized when I moved here. I can keep the pickup or the bike in the garage, but not both. I choose the bike. The girlfriend's car gets the other stall. I hear the thieves around here go for the full size Fords and Chevys. I have a Nissan, but I don't suppose that would stop the bastages. Did you have an alarm system? Probably not.
I don't have a hogleg, but I keep the double-barrel where I can get to it quick.

Had less than 10 gallons of gas in it, and if they drove it more than 80 miles on the freeway, I would bet money the "Service Engine" light would come on. The solenoid valve in the transmission would be sticking when they slowed to a stop and took off again, causing real hard shifts into 2nd and 3rd, until you park it and let it cool off 10-20 minutes. I know the truck - she has been that way for 3-4 years, and I know how to treat her.
I grew up here, when Texas was a "friendlier state of mind", and never, until now, felt the need to own a handgun. I have a large concrete bayou running behind my back yard, and I hate to think what kind of foot traffic it sees....and there should not be any. Found out tonight a neighbor had suffered an attempted car break-in earlier this week, before dark, with other neighbors out in their yards or garages. Set the car alarm off, and the neighbors chased the culprits to the end of the street where they hit the bayou and were gone. Across the freeway (up the bayou from me), are some poor, poor apartments, and a mobile home slum. Can't buy gas anymore without some bum hitting you up for money!
Had a guy ask me for a buck last week for some brake fluid. He was in a Sienna van, and the rear brakes were locking up while he was still rolling to a stop! I was gassing up the bike, and gave him a buck, but geez, thinking about it - we don't really want him driving that heep on the road, do we? He'll kill somebody!
Panhandlers at every freeway intersection.....

Got home from work read about runaway, trucks being stolen. Left my keys in my truck and didn't lock the door to the house.Never had any crimes in this little community in the woods.

Stealing a pickup truck is grounds for justifiable homicide I thought. Check your local laws! Good luck Keith, and bad luck to the robber who stole your ride.

Freind of mine lives in Houston and just had his $175,000 semi truck stolen from his shop right after new years. It was a custom truck with a 165" sleeper on it....it was a real beauty! Funny you mentioned the "Katrinites" because he blamed it on the same thing.....Hope you find yours ok and in one piece.

Houston is an old Cherokee word that means, " it is time to move to Galveston"

I was in Houston on business a few years ago and in the evening went down to the 'Sports Bar' of the Marriot hotel for a beer and some food. I sat at the bar next to a stunning looking petit hispanic girl, just happend to be the only seat (honest !). When she heard me order my drink, she asked me where I was from and why I was in Houston. She told me she was a Sergeant in the US Army, from Austin and on a training course. After a couple of drinks, I said that I was looking for a place to eat, and that I wasn't trying to pick her up, but I would consider it an honour if she would join me for dinner, and it would go on my expense account. I told her that a guy in the office has suggested a 'Steak and Ale' place a short walk away.
She shouted "WHAT !" and most of the guys in the bar turned to stare, "YOU ARE F*****G CRAZY" she went on. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you please forgive me " I stammered as a security man began to move towards us. " No it's not that" she said, "it's the notion that you can walk in Houston after 9 o'clock. These crazy f*****s 'round here would drive up onto the sidewalk to get you if you did..". She then told me that she had treated herself to a new 'Blazer' for a recent birthday and it was stolen on it's first night in Houston. there were two murders close by the hotel that night. I was intending to stay there for the weekend, but flew back to Hampton Va the next day.
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.
