Carb Jetting Instructions For CVK Carbs
Removing the Jets.
First of all, let me share my experiences as far as the jets go. I originally put in new mains (130) and pilot jets (45) as well as one shim in each carb. After much tweaking and running way too rich, I put the original pilot jets (42) back in and removed the shims from the carbs. I would recommend that you do the same. Do not change the pilot jets unless you live at a very high altitude (4,000 ft or higher) or have a very hard time with cold starts. You will end up way too rich which can cause many problems down the road, so to speak. With that said, I will still show the pilot jet removal and might add a section later for the shims, you only need to add shims if you feel a flat spot about mid throttle. but they are the easiest parts to add/remove anyway.

The left picture shows the screwdriver being inserted into the pilot jet hole. This one is pretty snug, be sure you have a very good tip on your screwdriver as the jets are made of soft brass. If you strip the end off the jet you will be in a world of sorry. A good thing here is to try your screwdriver's tip on for size with he new jet. If it is not a PERFECT fit, do whatever you have to do to make it perfect, buy a new screwdriver, grind one down, whatever, just make it fit perfectly into the slot and hold securely. And don't forget that it also has to go into the deep hole so it must be the same width as the jet as well. Mine shown is a snap-on SDD306, it's perfect.
The right picture shows the main jet being removed. You must hold the needle jet holder with an 8mm wrench while removing the jet from the center of the holder.
That wasn't so bad was it? Now simply replace the removed jets with the new jets and tighten them up. Be careful with tightening them, the carb cases are cast and you don't want to break them. Get them nice and snug, but you don't have to torque them as tight as possible. "Really snug" is fine. That's kind of like "a pinch" in cooking isn't it?
On to the next step.
