Carb Jetting Instructions For CVK Carbs

Adjust the pilot Screws while we're here

WARNING!!!
If you have a new 2004 model BA/SM you may have different EPA plugs. These will need to be screwed out by the dealer or you will need the special "D" shaped tool to remove them DO NOT TRY TO DRILL THESE! I have heard of people taking a piece of brake line and gently tapping it with a hammer into the correct "D" shape. BE VEY CAREFUL !

Since we have the carbs right in front of us we might as well adjust the pilot screws. In the bottom picture you see the adjustment screw for the carb. If you cannot see the screw on your carb you need to drill out the small cap covering it. First thing to do is to replace the float bowls so you don't get any crap in them. Then take a very small drill bit and drill a small hole in each of the caps, being careful not to drill so deep as to hit the screws underneath. Now screw a small screw into the hole you drilled, grab it with some side-cutters and yank it out. They come out fairly easy.
Once you have the screws exposed, screw them all the way in until they just stop, DO NOT tighten them, stop turning as soon as they stop turning. Now back them out 3 full turns on each carb. You will tweak them later if you get popping on deceleration. Turn them out ¼ turn each time you adjust them later and run the bike for about 5 miles before adjusting again. Once you get it right, don't worry about them anymore. But be sure to adjust BOTH carbs each time you make any adjustments.
On to the next step.
