Sealed bearings can't be replenished with new grease, grease the axle if you want, I don't. Or install new bearings, those are your options.

Well the wheel was spinning pretty smoothly before I took it off so I guess it will remain as is. Thanks

If the sealed bearings are bad they either leak or you can feel a interference or rough spot when you spin them with your finger. How do your seals look? If water or crud is getting past them, they are a cheap and easy replacement

Oh yes they can! If you can remove the seal carefully clean the bearing out and repack it, then re install the seal or shield. But with only 30 km i wouldn't bother yet. Bearings aren't expensive anyway and its a lot of trouble to repack, but it CAN be done.

Wow Mac, repacking sealed bearings? That takes frugality to the next level. I'm sincerely impressed.

I grease my axle just to inhibit rust and keep it sliding in and out easily when needed.

A little grease on the axle and as it was the first time took a while to get it back together, bits kept falling off or out of alignment and bent the wheel alignment mechanism on the sprocket side. Straightened it out and eventually got it together.

What, you didn't want to tell everyone about the first time you did it with all that shimming on the cushion drive, riviting and banging the shaft to get it in.
We're still talking about the rear wheel, eh?

When I take the rear wheel off I clean everything up and then lightly grease everything with a synthetic water resistant grease. It doesn't do that much for the sealed bearings, but it insures that dirt and moisture doesn't get in as well.
