Left the house yesterday after work in light rain for our mostly RAT bike night. Got to the end of the subdivision riding my standard rain level of caution, hit the brakes, and slid about 30 feet or so out into the middle of the T-intersection. The asphalt is especially slick right there, yesterday it was like ice. A girl was waiting to turn left, I stopped scant inches from her side door. The bike seemed like it was sliding in two different directions. As it leaned over, I was unconsciously turning the bars to the right. I knew I was going down, and even had time to think about how long it would take to push the bike home. When it stopped, I was surprised and relieved to find myself still upright. There was no evasive action or technique involved, I was just riding it out. If a car was coming, I would have been hit. I've done maybe a couple thousand miles in the wet. Only thing I can think is I was on the grease spot between the tire tracks, and it had just started raining. It was exacty like ice. Didn't really bother me til later, after it sunk in. Genuinely unsettling. Maybe there is something to this ABS business, I'll find out with my next bike.
