Here is an interesting article on avoiding critters in the road. Motorcyclist hitting large animals like deer and moose get killed 85% of the time. This article gives tips on how to avoid these large critters.

Cheerful thought! I nailed a deer doing 60mph in my VW Super Beetle few years back, scared the crap out of me, and did a number on the front end of my car.

Moose are the worst. They are a lot dumber, a lot taller, and a lot bigger than deer. At least on a bike you'd have a slight chance of actually going under it, but in a car, they don't mess up the front end, you basically trip them up with your bumper, and then they totally whipe out the passenger cabin, people have been decapitated!!

...if you have cruising at 50 mph through deer country, 70 seems risky. On the other hand if you have been zipping along at 80+, 70 seems quite reasonable.

Good information, you never want to hit stuff large or small.

Don't hit a deer or let a deer hit you..... it really hurts.
