Hello !

In the last week I have noticed when the engine warms up and I stop, the oil lamp begins to barely flicker in sync with the firing of the engine at idle. Adding an extra 100rpm will turn the lamp off. As the engine gets warmer it appears to get worse requiring up to an extra 500rpm at idle. No lamp when riding, though, and the engine sounds normal (sewing machine). Same oil, same filter, new problem. Has anyone experienced this (the bike with mods idles at 1200rpm)? An oil pressure gauge should be stock on these bikes!

We had a brief problem with Wendys bike once where it did that. It stopped after a couple days but that is what promted me to make my first gauge. Her oil pressure was fine but we would have never known that without one. Turned out she has sprayed water directly on it when washing and that caused the problem.

Hello and thanks for the info.

What kind of bike does Wendy have that did this?

My bike has never seen water in that way.

I was thinking maybe the oil pressure switch is defective, but would it gain/lose sensitivity or just not operate at all?

I am guessing at the cause since she had just washed it when it started and it cleared up. It did exactly what you describe but don't assume that is the problem you are having. I would get it checked out if I were you.

She rides an 04 America.

Maybe a dumb question but have you checked your oil level?

Ya know Phil you ask the obvious and thats a good thing. I always assume the obvious has been checked and thats bad practice.
