Catalytic converters mandatory for every state? See the following. http://yosemite.epa.gov/opa/admpress.nsf...7e?OpenDocumentCompanies that produce more than 300 units annually must comply. Remember the Triumph rush to produce the Amal II [T140E(mmision)] bikes for 1978? Changes are a-coming starting 2006. See the following. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/roadbike.htmNo more air-cooled engines? No more carburetors? Catalytic converters? See the following. http://www.abatecmro.org/discussion/_disc1/00000016.htmScary stuff. Let's see: a water-cooled, fuel injected, shaft driven, catalytic converted, 1500 cruiser. Commit and buy your cruiser now! Regards

So, they think they will reduce "roadside emissions" by 54K tons? I seriously doube that motorcycles in the US use 54K tons of fuel, much less convert that much into emissions. I wonder when they will start going after the big poluters? There are plants in the SW desert area that produce more hydrocarbons than any motor vehicle. Then, there are the huge amounts of thermal polution caused by politicians....

I am with you,Greybeard.in the EU we have any prescriptions, EURO 1 ..2...3..now EURO 4 and actually 5,because noise level is too high and the emissions must be lowered... An older Motorcycle sounds like a real one . I think this is not the last of their table.... PETER

This topic has been bashed about here. The EPA rule is long overdue and quite justified.

Yeah but they bought clean air credits off of the plants that meet the requirements, so all is good.

Any chem engineers here? We should get busy and try to be first on the market with a cold catalytic converter that can be applied to livestock. You just know the EPA will be going after cow farts next.

You know, that came up about 6 years ago. There was a (I believe, serious if misguided) question to have USDA "estimate" the methane released when the nation's beef/dairy cattle belched rumen gasses and if it was affecting global warming. It's a gonzo world out there! How can you address serious questions when people are posing things like that?
I need to prepare for this evening's Bar-Bee-Que.
