I mentioned on another site that I dump the old oil then fill up the engine with the least expensive synthetic I can get to pick up any acid residues and other junk. In the Spring I dump that which comes out quite dark change the filter and then fill up with liquid gold. A comment was waste of money ($12 CAD or $8-9 US is not much cant buy a 12 pack for that here) and the reason it comes out so dark is that the aluminum reacts and changes the colour over the winter months.
This has worked well for me but maybe I should just do the whole change in the fall and save the $12, any thoughts?

Double, double, toil & trouble...

For you, one oil change a year ought to do it. No sense in tossing oil unnecessarily. Think environmental, not monetary.

Good point. On the other hand I could just move south for the winter and bring it with me well at least for six months minus a day.... One person posted the 1999 Suzuki handbook page that suggests that very procedure I have been using and all of our oil goes in for recycling. I think thats what is used for Quebec potato fries, have you ever seen how dark they come out of the fryer? LOL

Oil arguments usually become a very slippery slope. That said, I use good stuff, & don't change on lunacy (lunar cycle). I have also learned to avoid obsessing or overthinking OCI's. It will all be OK.

I will add that my bike is kept ready to ride all year (although it is seldom used in winter), so no deep-sleep hibernation for mine. And the "waste" oil from my bike goes into my lawn tractor 🚜 😀

For reasons unknown to me, my posts can't be edited to delete or change errors. Meant to delete 1 post & edit another. Tractor has a Kohler engine.

Even in the middle of summer, I put a shot of stable in the tank, never know when I'm going to ride again.

I don't do anything and just do a spring oil change. Been doing that over 40 years. Ran my 64 BMW this summer after not running it for a couple years, no special prep for storage. That being said if I knew I would not be running it that long I would have put Stabil in the fuel. Didn't matter though it fired right up and I rode it.

I dont know the engine, are you burning it as fuel or using it to lubricate?
