......the other day so I bought a 1994 Royal Enfield Bullet 500.
Not even see it yet( hope it exists).
Don't know whether/ how well it runs.
Should be delivered to me ' sometime soon'.
Perhaps not the ideal way to buy a bike but we're all locked down still in UK so viewing isn't really an option right now.
Having had a near identical machine ' back in the day' I think I know what I'm in for .
Maybe.....
Oh well, I guess I won't be bored much soon....sweating and cursing maybe...
But not bored.

Hey it only has one cylinder what can go wrong? ;-)
I miss hearing them all the time from when in India two years ago, those thumpers sure are unique sounding.

Thanks for your vote of confidence.
It's an Enfield.
Anything and everything can and probably will go wrong.
But they're charming relics of a bygone age.
Bit like me .

I think they are cool. I would like to see them make a V twin version like the guy from Australia did to one.

I decided to search it and link to it but it looks like the engine might be available to purchase, or maybe the bike, not sure on that one. Here is what I just read. http://www.musketvtwin.com/home.html
Looks like it is a complete stretched bike.

The new 650cc seem to have a decent motor. They are making a 350 single cruiser now and I think a 650cc to follow.

After my last post I spent time looking at that page and it is available as a kit or a complete bike. I think you have to have a donor bike to start with. Kits are $7,000 and $8,000, complete bike done by them is $12,000.

The V twin project bike that shows up in the video looks interesting, who knows maybe it will happen but it looks like a 650 twin is coming.

Still waiting for delivery on the Bullet!
It was loaded onto the van on Monday morning....since when it's been travelling up and down the country as the driver collects other bikes.
Probably the most mileage it's ever done without a major rebuild.
Allegedly it arrives tomorrow.
I read a couple of years back about that chap in Australia who has built the v twin.....I'd really really like one of those.

I like the looks of the V twin much much better than the one in the vid joe posted. I like the way the single top ends look on the V cases and the styling of the cases is much more pleasing to my eye but as we all know what looks great to one person doesn't to the next.

I hope you get delivery on time. Sucks waiting for things to be delivered then they are late. The US mail right now is really bad. Took a month for me to get a package sent from the mid west to me in the north east.

Thanks for those thoughts...due in about 3 hours...it feels like the night before Christmas.
Chap who's delivering it is Chas Mortimer...an old time racer who still holds the world record for having won 125, 250,350 ,500 and 750 cc classes internationally...the only guy to have achieved that.
I've used him before...runs a very professional setup and is a total gentleman into the bargain.
Nice to find someone older than me too!

I looked at the 650 intercepter pretty seriously in 2019. I was looking for a commuter bike at the time.
Great looking bike with a good standard riding position. 3 test rides.
The brakes were okay but the power was not impressive. I was concerned that I would immediately start on the motor to get more power and by the time I got done it would not be the reliable, ride to work bike that I was needing.

I ended up with a 900 street scrambler instead, excellent ride. But not the retro cool look of the RE.

This may be the best go to work bike you can buy. They don't break, shaft drive, dealer network, comfortable.

7600 bucks for a 750 cruiser. But if you like the excitement of keeping something running and stopping, Enfield would be an adventure. It is clearly iconic.

Reliable?
Powerful?
Where's the fun in that?
Mines here and it's slow, noisy, leaky and a tremendous giggle to ride.
But it's got a left side gearshift as a Canadian import.
Jeez, what a sloppy design to chant the shifter from right to left.
So many bits of metal with wearing joints.
I'll have to take a look at that.
Oh well, it's a hobby.

Well, I'm certainly not bored now. Spent all day trying unsuccessfully to remove some of the gear linkage slop. Same again today.
I'm trying to avoid having to strip down the entire outer and inner primary chain cases with all that implies.
Maybe I should just 'bite the bullet' to coin a phrase.
At present gear selection is somewhat haphazard and in fact pretty random..if all else fails I'll buy the conversion kit to make it right side change....but that costs money.

Sounds like fun! I love tinkering with vintage machines.. Now you know why you had to be a mechanic to ride back in the day.

I'm afraid I don't enjoy it so much these days...too many aching muscles etc.
But it's now on the way to getting sorted. Last Sunday I took the primary side apart to gain access to the gear linkage. A friend has since rebushed these to remove the slop and now I'm waiting for parts to put it all back together.

Well the Enfield is up and running after a fashion.....previous owner was some sort of muppet judging by the bodges I'm still finding...such as the left side handlebar switch...wrong top half mated to bottom half with the gap filled by a loose but and then the lot taped over.
Still made a couple of trips out now with nothing failing or falling off.
That's progress .
Actually I'm starting to enjoy the charms of this old thing.

Well, that was unexpected.
I was happily bringing the bike up to standard when a) I realised that spannering at my age really really hurts...back, neck, hands muscles I never even knew I had....then b) I came across someone with one of those factory green and silver works Trials replicas who didn't like his bike but loved mine.
A deal was done and I am now the owner of a 1200 mile 2020 enfield trials replica.
Other than it being quieter than I'd like, It's a very decent machine. Not fast( but neither was the other one) but comfortable and it looks so so good.

I think that is called serendipity. And much less spannering. LOL

Serendipity indeed...or as we used to call it ' the great cosmic motorcycle market'.
Of course, just to show the futility of human endeavour, my spannering aches and pains are gone...replaced by polishing aches and pains.
