6/10/19 I had my left hip replaced. Have been doing lots of walking, and now walk without a cane and can walk up stairs with out the use of the cane either. Now the problem, I want to ride the America however I can not lift my right leg high enough at this time to get it over the seat.
Guess I will need to give the recovery more time. I an scheduled to return to work August 8th.

Keep trying every day like Physical therapy. You can do it and will be out riding before you have to go back to work.

I hope it's getting better. I'm due for a knee replacement.I've been putting it off for years as I don't want to spend the "down time"and I'm scared if it doesn't go right I'll be worse off.The last doctor I talked to about it reckons about 80-85% are happy with them[knees].I know an old dude[not like us ] who had a hip done.He walked sort of stiff legged for quite awhile but he seems very good now.All the best

Have you asked about it at physical therapy? Not about riding, but specifically about getting your leg over the seat. That can be a dangerous motion if done wrong. Hips are easy to "pop out" during recovery.

Here's the method I use to get on without trying to raise my leg to the side. Left foot close to the motorcycle. Left hand on handlebar. Raise right foot behind you by bending only your knee. Cradle your boot in your hand at the ankle. Heel touching your butt. Steadying with your left hand on the grip, bend away at the left hip, pulling up with your right hand. Your right hip doesn't bend to the side much at all. As your knee clears the seat, relax into it. It really is simple. Just don't try to raise your right leg using hip joint or muscles.

Now, if your new hip is on your left side, never mind.

Don't push it. Don't screw up the doc's good work. Do the PT and let your body tell you when you are ready.

Good luck.

Knee is a tough one for recovery, my grandmother was happy with the results though. A guy I work with just had his hips done and he has recovered very quickly and says he has no pain now. His was very bad he had worn all the way through the bone.

Would getting on from the right side help? Ever since I put the backrest on it's been easier for me to grab the throttle with my right hand and just kick my left leg over. Plus it keeps me away from traffic.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

With bike on the side stand I often lift my left leg straight drop it onto the saddle and slide on but there is a bit of a twisting motion to get into the saddle so be careful friend. Keep up the physio.

Vespa, go Burgman or BMW get something that can really shower the sparks when the floor boards are dragging.

My knee is a day to day thing. It hasn't been too bad for the last day or two but some days I want to take the thing off with an axe.Mine knee's bone on bone too.

My right knee.I
I also sometimes throw my left leg over from the right side with the bike on the side stand holding the throttle side of the bars.Anything that'll keep us riding

I did it, yesterday I put the leg over and got dressed and went for a short ride of 50 miles. No problems. No pain.

Good for you!
I had my left hip replaced 3 yrs ago and absolutely love it! I have been riding for a while now. The only problem I had was when I had a back rest behind my seat. I had to step on the passenger peg to be able to swing my right leg over it.
