I might break my own rule of never going to the cinema and actually go and see that!

Go to a movie theatre instead then you won't be breaking your rule.

Yeah, or maybe even at a movie theater, and of course how that word SHOULD be spelled!

C'mon now, you two superfluous-'u' spellers here. Does one pronounce that word as "thee-uh-tre"(as in "thee-uh-tray") OR as "Thee-uh-ter"?

(...oh, and yeah..this flick looks like it might be pretty good, alright...especially for us gearheads...might have to go see it...at a movie TheatER...okay okay, or at "the cinema", if ya wanna get all highfalutin here...and which in THIS great country of mine, only movie snobs and the effete call it THAT!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

North of the border where you have some roots we use both cinema and theatres. (..and if that is such a fixed rule in spelling in the US how do you explain the word ACRE which historically was spelt Aker or Aecer?)

Hmmmm..."acre" ya say, eh?!

Ya know, I must admit I've never thought of this example before, Paul.

(...guess I'll now have to consider mounting a whole new lexicographical campaign to right THIS wrong now TOO, huh!)

I think if Benjamin Franklin had had his way with the language it would have been spelt Akr.

I must confess at this point that for the past week I have been listening to "The Protical Tongue" while driving from point to point. Its is a very funny, academic (is that and oxymoron?) look at the differences between English English and American English and some of the misconceptions that abound. (could I spell that without a U?)

On another note if in Sedona and I want to know what is playing at the Movie Theater do I not look at Cinema Clock for the information?

Even English sovereigns spelled their names and words differently in private papers and official letters. Queen Elizabeth I constantly spelled her name differently. I imagine it was the transitions from Old English to Middle English ( The Canterbury Tales ) to New English.

Speech dialects are regional in America and England, but the spelling is standard all over. For example, in Boston, "I lost my khakis" means car keys are missing, for the rest of us trousers are missing.

Slight correction to follow here, Mac.

In BOSTON, this would mean their "CAH keys" are missing.

Remember here: Bostonians never pronounce their 'R's where they should, but they WILL pronounce the "Rhotic-R" sound in a word such as "saw". They'll pronounce it as "sar".

I know, weird as hell, isn't it?!

(...btw, and re all this...I heard or read somewhere recently that during a recently taken poll, SOMEHOW the Boston accent was deemed "the most sexy" American accent...and, just wanna say here, I have NO freakin' idea how THAT could be!)

The playright George Bernard Shaw declared that the word ' fish' ought to be spelt
' ghoti'.
'gh' as in ' enough'
'o' as in 'women'(' wimmen?')
' ti' as in 'quotient'.
Hey, but we're Brits...what do you expect?

I saw the preview on the big screen last night before watching Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Oh yah I am going to see this movie on the big screen in full surround sound maybe even the VIP theatre where the seats move and rumble.

Then I'll get in a taxi to go home I dont think my MX5 will handle the after burn of that movie.

All i can say is that the Women always like my accent even though i've lived here for 40 years after leaving Manchester England. I've called many a guy a "wanker" to his face and they just laugh and smile and don't have a clue what it means.

Well that was a good ride!! We sprung the extra 8 bucks for the D-box motion seats just for the fun of it. You'll enjoy it.

Yep, enjoyed it a lot too. Saw it last Monday.

And while I suppose they might've needed to write in some kind'a bad guy in order to give it some added dramatic tension, and while I thought actor Josh Lucas was also very good as Ford exec Leo Beebe, I have to wonder if Beebe was a big a dickwad and ass-kisser in real life as Lucas portrayed him?

Sure were a lot of beautiful cars in it.

(...and the actress who played Ken Miles' wife wasn't too hard on the ol' eyes either)

She is the woman that goes back through the rocks in Scotland to 1743 meets and falls in love with Jamie of Clan Fraser. Good series and you get to see much more of her.

Good movie!
It also gave me a better insight on Shelby.

I finally got to see it earlier today.
Very entertaining movie. And from what I have read it was not that far (for Hollywood) from the actual story it is based on. Really glad the language will not cause major edits to air on TV for a larger audience.
