How have they been going with the weight of the battery and only the top mounting bolts keeping it all together
Just thinking it would be viberating a bit not being fixed at the bottom
Ian, thanks for the question. There is no visable vibration. In fact theres no movement while trying to wiggle it with your hand. The plate itself is 1/8" thick steel and is very rigid. Perhaps if it was vibrating like harley it'd be a different story..haha

And as far as the brackets holding up... I orginally did this modification in 2007 12,000 miles ago. I have cut front and rear springs on the hardest setting, and ride on some very turbulent roads. Ive never had a problem, especially at the bend point. Ive actually never even had a fender bolt come slightly loose either.

I'll be working on one this week for another member here, I'd be able to work on yours at the same time. Shipping obviously would be your biggest concern.

A lot of people agree with you. Thats why the freak kit is so popular. Other people (myself included) prefer the old school look. Also, the freak will run you about $300, while Tom's relocation kit is only $60.
On the other hand, there are a lot of guys that don't like the stock look. I wish I could have a different America for every style concept, I like them all
Man?....I go on vacation for a week and this threads on fire!...haha Thanks for filling in for me fellas.

Yeah man thats what it looks like. I was originally going to make sidecovers for it when I first did it, but I liked it opened up with that bare bones cut-up look to it. I was actually surprised that so many people liked it as much as I did.

I guess it might be a bit shocking for you if you just got your bike and havent got sick of seeing the same stock bikes over and over. I just hated all the plastic myself. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

yeah that one on the right side is the only problematic one. the other one is welded on the inside of the frame rail and you can actually bend it inward and under until the metal cracks. The right side needs the sawzaw and a spot of satin black rusto

where did you put the fuse box?
the fuse box is just tucked under the seat. The wiring harness is stiff enough to let it kinda float and rest on top of the battery. Theres other methods done by other users. I particularly like this one because I didnt want to have the box showing. Also I have cut rear shocks and used to blow fuses on hard bumps. This setup allows the fuse box to be free from the chasis.

This allows you to keep the fusebox and ignition block mounted in the same position.

Comparison to the original design where the fusebox is tucked under the seat and the ignition is mounted in the same spot.
So how much for that? I think I'll buy one of these setups. I like how the ignition switch and fusebox mount and I just don't have time to make my own. I do have a spare battery bracket for hacking up. Then I can get my brass bulldog cover made.

I'll probably have the whole shebang powdercoated so factor that in. No painting needed.

Tom,
Now that you are using my trademarked ignition assembly as well as images of my bike for advertising purposes, I think I am owed a consulting fee, or a 6 pack of consulting fees (possibly a 12 pack, depending on sales). The best place to deliver said consulting fee would be at the NorEast Rally http://noreast.webs.com/ We would love to see you there, the rally is always a great time!!

Thanks for the invite Carl, Ive always wanted to go to one, but I never can get enough time off and wife cooperation to make it up...haha

What are you using for a crank case breather? My current one is bolted to my old custom battery box. Of course that will be going away. And I can't bolt that same breather to my sprocket cover because I have the T-100 version, not the GFG.
I use the crankcase breather from newspeedmaster.com with the t-100 sprocket cover. I used that little wire bracket that bolts underneath the sprocket cover to mount my filter. Check out the pic on the first page.
Cool. Thanks.

Don't suppose you have a tracking number on that puppy?

So, I've received my new hardware and installed it this afternoon. I can't test it properly as my K&Ns haven't arrived yet. Everything looks great though. I'm really happy with it.

I do have a question to others that have installed this kit. On the ignition side, how have you finished the vertical section below the ignition? (It has two bolt holes in it)
steve do you mean the horizontal piece of frame that the battery used to mount to?

I didnt do anything, but always meant to. I actually got one powdercoated wingnut from my drumset on there now just because they were the same size threads.

You could find an acorn nut or acorn style bolt to fit in there to finish it off.
Posted By: Madrid Re: BATTERY RELOCATION ASSEMBLY ....FOR SALE - 09/06/2011 4:23 PM
If you're talking about the horizontal section like Tom said, I just screwed the two hex head battery tray bolts back in.

I really like this relocation set-up. Very clean. Stupid question, Is there a plate that goes under the seat to hold all the wires up?
Posted By: Madrid Re: BATTERY RELOCATION ASSEMBLY ....FOR SALE - 09/07/2011 3:24 AM
There is no plate to support the wiring as part of the kit. Right now the wiring is all piled on top of the battery. I was able to reroute a lot of it and zip tie it out of the way so you don't see it.
I picked up some plexiglass at Home Depot and cut out a peice to lay over the top of the battery. Its roughly 2 x 8 inchs and tucks in nicley under the two bolts mounting the assembly to the frame at the back and the battery strap mount point in the front. It lays directly over the terminals, assuming you have the battery oriented so they are closest to the back of the bike.
yeah the wires are supported by the main harness and nothing moves.

When I first did it I wanted to put some sheetmetal in there because I was affraid of water kicking up. Well I never got around to it during my "unpainted testing phase", and got caught in a horrible thunderstorm. Next day I went and checked it out and there was no sign of any splash at all. Not even on the swingarm and hardly any on the back of the bracket. So I left it open and havent thought about it since.

Oh la di da, Carl's got another awesome variation big surprise...haha

Question, if you get and use the billet intake manifolds do you still need the carb brace?
ya know you'd probably be fine, they are bolted flanges

though it is screwed into an aluminum piece of metal.

(brace for sales pitch)

Nothing like some suspenders to hold things up...ya know? And really because there's no reason not to. That satin black finish would go nicely with those polished machined pieces of art.

haha
There is still a rubber adapter, although not as long as stock, I'd put in a brace. Cheap insurance.

No I havent...I checked bike bandit for the schematics of a 2010 FI for reference and it looks like you have the same frame and similar airbox, the throttle bodies look similar to the carbs, and the battery bracket looks identical.

I'd be concerned with how much electrical equipment there is to conceal and the fitment of the pods on the throttle bodies. Other than that the basic mechanics of nuts, bolts, and brackets seem to look the same.

I'd offer you a refund if it didnt work out. Just cause youre the first though...haha

I have a 2005 BA and wondering what you guys have done with the wire cable retainer that was attached to the lower part battery housing. Just removed all together or attached to somewhere else. Also any ideas where to mount the crank case breather?
I really cant remember what I did with the wire hanger on the bottom. I'm gonna guess and say I removed it. Does that have something to do with the rear exhaust hanger?...I never had those on my bike, so things went together differently under there for me.

Crank case breather I have mounted to that little black tab next to the sprocket cover which holds the wires back next to the engine. I drilled a hole in the tab, and mounted it upwards on the sprocket cover, then bolted the filter to it. I thought I had a pic in this thread somewhere towards the begining.
heres a pic of the carb brace and where I have my crankcase mounted
sconsi added to the list, bought a carb brace too
Alright Tom. Got mine done tonight. Stripped a screw on one of the carb pods when changing the main jets to 145, so have to replace that tomorrow and should be able to fire her up. Still not sure what to do with the crankcase breather. Thought of shortening the hose and tucking it up in the middle between the carbs and cylinders. Any other suggestions from this thread? Will post some photos soon.
Install is done. Rejetted to 145 main per Dinqua calc. I decided to draw tie the breather to the spine frame so it sits nicely between the pod air filters. I did the battery box cut down and used the fuse/ignition part to free up some space under the seat. The button near the ignition is for the garage door opener. Some photos here of the box and finished job. Thanks for help from Dinqua and Tom. LOOKING GOOD ADAM!

glad it all worked out for you. thanks for posting
Garage door opener, huh. Pretty slick
I know many people like to cut the tabs off the frame with this mod, yet for the highly unlikely reason that I might want to go back to stock, I left my tabs on and dressed them up a little with these Ace Cafe stickers. By the way, I took the bike in to the dealer yesterday to check the fuel/air mix after the rejet an all seems to be good. She is running better than ever and love the change to the pods.
nice idea Adam, glad youre happy with the modifications
How do you have the garage door opener set up.
you might have to send him a message, this thread dont get much everyday attention.
So have you tested the relocation bracket on an EFI bike yet?
Nope....there was a couple guys at first who eventually backed out. Possibly because I told them "free bracket" doesnt mean "free shipping" and I'll need a lot of pictures from every angle before and after just to be familiar with EFI bikes under the seat.

haha, nice! I actually shipped it a day later than I wanted to! Thanks
Dude, what's the deal - only a theif would keep a guy's $50.00 after returning a battery tray / core as requested - at least return my tray
NOTICE TO ALL OF MY FUTURE CUSTOMERS!
If you notice any major defects in the stock bracket that youre returning to me for your deposit refund, MESSAGE ME FIRST BEFORE SENDING IT! Don't send me a beat up, bent, rusted, and cracked stock bracket without telling me. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR $50 DEPOSIT. I'll be spending your deposit on another bracket to sell to the next customer.

Heres a picture of what zaptweety sent back to me as an example of what NOT to send me...

Zaptweety, if you'd like this piece of crap back you'll need to paypal me the shipping. I will not pay to ship back your lack of communication. If you'd like a full refund for my bracket assembly, (as stated in your Paypal dispute)send me back my bracket first and I'll refund you.

GUYS, Ive sold something like 30-40 brackets on here for the past few years. Never had a problem. NOT ONE! Until now Ive never actually had to keep someone's deposit either. If you have a problem and might not make the 30 day deadline. MESSAGE ME FIRST! We'll work it out.

Zaptweety was afraid to meet the 30 day deadline so he bought a bracket from pinwall to send me. Pinwall sells parts from wrecked bikes and they sometimes have defects that might not be clear in the picture. (ask me how I know) He got the bracket from pinwall, seen it had damage didn't understand that part was to be reused, and sent it anyway without contacting me first.

Imagine my surprise when I'm ready to make the bracket for the next customer, open zaptweety's box, and see this mess. I was pissd! I'm always pretty good with 1 week turn around give or take a day or two. So I had to ask my new customer, who already paid, for a few weeks so I could buy another bracket from ebay with zaptweety's deposit.

Now he wants his cracked bracket back, fine its yours, but don't expect me to pay to ship it back to you.
sounds pretty reasonable.

As luck would have it, the day I went to buy a replacement tray on ebay. Suncoast cycles was selling 2 trays, $25 each with free shipping. That's an unheard of price for these things. Couldn't believe how it came out to exactly $50. Smells like justice to me.
so anyway, add these customers to the list...

zaptweety (meh) bought a carb brace too.
The guy put a dispute for a full refund into paypal a month after buying it (12/26) and froze my paypal capability until today (1/13) when he let it expire instead of actually shipping it back. More than a Dick move at this point.

Anway, also add...

Just bought one of Brokenfixed battery brackets. Very easy and friendly to deal with. I ordered his bracket January 9, 2013 and got it in the mail late Monday morning January 13, 2013. We're talking stellar turn around time.

Now granted he already had a bracket to use. I just payed him the $50 core fee plus the $60 for the time it takes him to build his very awesome battery relocation brackets.

It's so worth the money for this bracket. It's well made painted and ready to bolt on. It's a must have piece of motorcycle art.

And as he stated. If you do send him your battery bracket or buy one to send to him. It needs to be clean and NOT DAMAGED. Just stating the obvious here.

Welcome Mike, just click on brokenfixed's profile name in red, you can find him a page earlier, this subject, and send him a personal PM. He will be notified in his regular email he has a message. He checks in on a regular basis, so either way, he will be in touch with you soon.

I like the look. What all is needed to complete the conversion? Battery bracket, carb braces, filters, what else? What parts do you have and where do you suggest getting the rest of the items? It would certainly make it a lot easier to keep the lower part of the frame clean.
You'll need a crankcase breather filter and a rejet if youre adding pod filters.
I know I'm resurrecting a old thread, but does anyone if broken is still offering to make his kits? I've got a list of upgrades to make to my 07 America and this is definitely at the top of the list.

He stated awhile back, He's outa business. There is another member selling what looks to be a functional prod. This be him: web page
That link is to my Ebay listing. I will sell them here on the forum a little cheaper. If you contact me through here, I will sell them for $100 and I pay shipping. Ebay is $99 plus shipping.

Here is more info. I have 3 left right now and can ship them out as soon as I get and order. If there is a demand, I will make more.
