Well, out of pure boredom I decided to completely remove my baffles. Obviously I know it's going to be loud.
I'll point out a few things from this experience
- It is almost as loud as Gravedigger
- I could not ride it more than 5 minutes
- Noticeable loss in bottom end torque
To remedy this I have ordered 8" steel baffles.
I lost a baffle out of my Scepter pipe before, and pulled the other side to balance it out. It's obnoxious and yes, loses power...
I wonder how EMGO cocktail shakers sound compared to these. I can imagine they are comparable.
I removed all three baffles from my BA and don't think it's too loud. Most of the guys I ride with have HDs that are louder than my bike.
And once I fattened up the carbs it runs better than it did stock.
I gutted my pipes too and have a measurable gain on the dyno. That being said I do not have straight pipes, there is still back pressure but only a reducer cone no baffles. I have also done other mods though to go with the pipes. You need back pressure or you lose power and you will not gain by simply allowing the exhaust to flow better. You need to make intake and fuel changes to go along with the open pipes.
Right now I still have my stock air box so I haven't rejetted yet. It runs pretty good without any backfiring.
You are way lean then but not as bad as if you had opened trhe intake too without a rejet.
I've also done the SAI removal so I'm sure I'm about as lean as the factory which is still lean anyway. It seems to run just as good but I'm looking into rejetting for pods.
Here's a sound clip of the new baffles with steel wool wrapped around them. They're cheap 8.5" steel baffles from eBay with Ace hardware wool.

I've ordered 128 main jets from Bellacorse. Love that website. Hopefully this will get me right on point to where I need to be. I might be a tad rich but if I am I will modify the airbox.
You will most likely not be rich, more likely still a little lean at 128 main with open pipes even with the stock air box but who knows until you try it. Don't forget the pilot circuit.
Thanks for the wisdom. I was going off of dinquas calculator which lead me to 126 mains, however bellacorse only offered 128.
