What are to pros and cons of installing the Nology Profire High Performance Ignition Coils and Hot Wires. I know one of the cons is the cost. Just wondering if the performance is with it.

There is no performance gain over properly functioning OEM coils & wires, presuming that you define "performance" as "power increase". From my perspective the Nology capaciter wires are a gimmick. If you want to replace the OEM wires then I suggest Magnecor wires, & these specifically from TPUSA: http://www.triumphperformanceusa.com/ind...products_id=217The Nology coils are rebranded PVL coils; as a general rule they are more reliable than the OEM coils.

It's now going run like a raped Ape!!! Some people have had some firing issues so Nology is an improvement over stock..some would argue No real performance grains from them but if your butt Dyno feels different then that's all it matters in my book..ride safe have fun

Myself I like the ones from TPUSA but that's cause there are cheaper

The gains aren't in HP or Tq. By upgrading the ignition system you'll get better burn of a/f. This will result in a smoother idle (assuming your carbs are balanced also) and you may find that your revs come up smoother. Its not as noticeable on our bikes and not as big a benefit till you reach the limits of the current ignition system. There are lots of opinions on both sides of the fence. Im on the side of "yes, theres a benefit". It'll be up to you to find out if its worth the $$.
Back when I was much younger and used to race my CRX at the local strip I found an ignition upgrade (plugs, wires, coils) was good for about 1000 rpm and really helped burn the avgas I was running.
On the bike I found easier starting and a smoother idle.

Nology (PVL) coils yes seems like they are better more reliable than stock.......Nology wires are waste of money

I've been pretty happy with both. As Z said, she seems to idle smoother and rolls very nicely. Some others have stated, and I've noticed as well, there seems to be something like a crackle like sound when the engine is running that sounds really good.
Some may not like the wires, but I have the red ones and I really like how they peak out from under the fuel tank.
I'm very happy with them.

I went with just the coils. All I can say is the bike seemed to run better after the swap... like it was better tuned or something. Glad I was forced to do it (failure of stock coil).
Live to love, love to live.

I went with the Nology coils, wires and plugs. Noticed a big difference. Like Keith said, "like it was better tuned or something". I had much better response and ran much smoother. The butt dyno says "more power". My mileage went up too.

Thanks for the inputs. Wasn't really looking for any increase in HP, just, as some have said, smoother operation. Besides if I really wanted increased HP I would have bought a bigger bike, which I did when I got the Tiger. I love the power that my America has, and again just looking for smoother operation and quicker response. The bike is 10 years old and generally I do a major tuneup at 10 years or 100,000 miles, which for me will almost always be due to time.

Funny thing, I just happened to be reading an old bike mag (sometimes I think I like my old ones better than a new issue). Guys like Eraldo Ferracci, Muzzy, & Yoshimura all said there was nothing to be gained by replacing plug wires unless the insulation gets messed up. Stock coils don't need replacing unless you increase compression.

That was true back in the mechanical points & condenser days; with electronic CDI, presuming the coils haven't failed, there is no performance reason to replace them.

Well, when I replaced my low-mileage OEM coventional plugs with IX plugs, in-spec OEM Gill coils with Nology coils, & well-performing NGK OEM wires with TPUSA wires, I swear that I became a little taller, my hair became darker, my wife liked me better, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. As for the bike, however, it perfomed about the same...

Kind of like the Q Ray wrist bracelet. Made no difference to my health, but my car runs better and my computer runs faster.
