My turn I suppose...went out to take a check ride in prep for a run tomorrow and no spark. Strong battery spins motor freely. Already bypassed the side stand switch, no joy. Next? I guess I'd better jump over to the rides thread and cancel that. Bummer :-(
Cleaned all of the fuses and went over most of the connectors with dielectric grease, pulled the tank and unplugged the starter relay. Plugged it back in and the bike started. No exact replacement at the parts store, only 4 pin versions, so it's clean and replace the original relay and wonder what's up with the no spark since that relay isn't in the spark path.
8/6 edit: big backfire this am but it started right up...

So, backup a second. The start relay can determine whether or not you have spark at the plugs, while still allowing the engine to crank over? Cuz Bollox turns over all day (or until the battery dies) but there is no spark. Doesn't matter what coils or CDI I use.

I don't think so but that's what happened, when I removed and replaced the relay the bike started. Or maybe when I removed the tank the spark came back. That starter relay just robs the headlight power to spin the starter and it's absolutely not in the spark path; I'm sure I have another problem and at some point I'm going to have to open the wiring harness and look inside. It sucks because now the bike is running better than it has in months...

Yeah, the last time mine fired up it was very strong. Haven't seen a single spark since.
I'll just have to do what you did, unplug everything, redo the dialectic grease and hope for the best. It's that or start unwrapping the harness and looking for damage, and/or tracing out every circuit.

Ya know, there is a tiny little molex plug under the seat that the spark pulse goes through. It has little bitty minnie pins as I recall, be sure to give that a check. Just follow the little wire harness up from the little grommet on the right engine cover to locate it. If you got a scope or even a decent analog electric meter, put it on the pins and spin the motor. There should be high and lows there, small ones though, as long as the stator is spitting out a pulse. This pulse feeds the cdi box so that is a quick easy way to check that end of the electrics.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Ya know, I haven't checked the point gap yet, either.

Well, if the points are acting up then it could be a bad condenser...

Good call, I'd forgotten to look there.
