I had a starter problem a few years back, it was broken teeth on the idler gear. I got my bike second hand so I don't know its full history.
I would pull the starter & check pinion gear, idler & then the sprag clutch. Good luck,let us know.
Also, what is snow? Its been 90 degree plus for a week here.
