I learned this at Sturgis. Compair the Triumph logo from today and 40 years ago. Seems that the new Triumph owner didn't want to buy the pation rights for the Triumph word. Look at the Triumph R and where the leg goe's around and circles around into the H, on the old logo. But not on the new logo. check it out. Or am I the last one to know?Rudy

Well Keith, I gotta say that that looks like it belongs on the Thunderbirds!
(...nope, not on the 1600cc Triumph cruisers...but on one of those flyin' machines that were on that old british marionette TV kids show from the 1960s!!!)

When John Bloor bought Triumph Motorcycles, he did also buy all rights to the Triumph Motorcycles (not to be confused with Triumph automobiles) name and logos of the past. Because it was a new fresh start, a new fresh modern design logo with strong ties to the old logo was in order. The logo has changed once since John Bloor bought Triumph. I would bet Sturgis aint the most reliable place to get accurate info on Triumphs. As Soren mentioned, Bloor bought it all, lock, stock, and barrel. The logo is still heritage enough, but notice how much Triumph stuff is out in the clothing range, and how it uses the old logos(even the one from the 1920s), that isnt a company using logos that they dont own, its one that owns it own images.

Aah, yes, once again it seems we have "The tale of the tail of the R" coming up for discussion again around here, eh?! Well folks, don't forget that even the Hinckley Triumph logo was changed slightly just a few years ago and since the new factory opened its doors for business in 1990. Btw Todd, I thought your quote, "I would bet Sturgis aint the most reliable place to get accurate info on Triumphs."...was a keen observation.  Yep, most likely the chances of gettin' accurate info about Triumph's rich history in South Dakota during THAT meet, would probably be about as "good" as gettin' qualified advice about triple bypass surgery from the guy who slices your meat behind the deli counter at your local Piggly Wiggly!!!  (...yep, now granted I suppose you MIGHT get lucky and find a guy who knows his stuff there, but the chances are probably pretty darn slim!)

I just didn't hear this on the street. It came form a person working for Hagon shock while we were look at a Barnet clutch display with a 1969 Triumph motorcycle. Now didn't hagon supply shocks for the older Triumph.Rudy

 Yes Mr Bloor bought "it all" and owns the old logo but as stated above, he wanted to reflect the "new , better Triumph" and changed the logo.... he owns the old logo too... also , contrary to popular myth , Triumph has been in continual production since 1902 ,,, he licensed the mfg of Bonnies to a fella between 1983 and 1989, the bikes from the "new" factory in Hinckly came out in 1990....non of the 1983-1989 production made it to the USA due to EPA emissions requirements....The old factory in Meridan was leveled and "condos" replaced it at the old site.... most of my Harley buds confuse the facts in an attempt to divert attention from HD's AMF bowling ball period........... P.S. Rudy ! do you have any pictures of your new fairing on your bike ?

That looks like one of the rocking'est bands ,,,,,Triumph...ahhhh yesss, I remimber the 8-track blairing in my pea green LTD..... along with tunes from Max Webster.... now those guys were good !  head-banging before there was head bangers !!!!!

No I don't have a Hannagon fairing yet I saw Jerry at a ralley in March and he told me my order was tacked up in front of his work bench and would be makeing a proto type in April (A America tripel tree is 1/2" wider than his fairing now) I haven't got one yet.Rudy

No. But, at one time they were the first choice of aftermarket shocks for Brit bikes.

It should also be pointed out that Harley started in 1904, but didnt sell a bike until 1906. Following that logic, Triumph should say that they started in 1895 instead of 1902.

That Hagon guy needs to brush up on his facts then, its sad when a guy tries to be smart and has his facts wrong, and even more so when he passes incorrect info along.

Could argue for 1889 if you go back to bike production.

The Hagon guy may not have his fact right! But he has payed his dues. nation champ in a very impressive class. Broke his back three times had to fined a slower and safer job but not as much fun. Not going to say his name, don't want him to have any trouble he just trying to make it like the rest of us.Rudy
