I think my main purpose will be for target practice, and then personal protection. So I am looking for a good all round pistol that I will be happy with for a very long time.

I have looked at the Ruger and Smith & Wesson, and I think both are still made in the US. The Glock I believe is made in Austria. I haven't looked at the Springfield, but will.
