We've had idiots actually wear their hats in church. I've taken a few aside and reminded them that gentleman remove their hats indoors, and certainly in church. The worst are the ones in cowboy hats. Apparently some faux cultural statement is their top priority. The ones in ballcaps are usually just too ignorant to know better.
If you are Jewish I think they wear that little cap (can't spell yamica) to remind themselves that there is a greater power or something. So guess it depends on your point of view. I was always taught that a gent does remove a hat in doors. In casual settings I sometimes don't remove my dew rag though.
