Today I was riding between Austin and Marble Falls on a state road (RR1431) a lot of riders use. It's a good ride, hilly with a lot of curves and several long sweepers. The two lane section has a double yellow line almost all the way becuase of limited sight distance, but there are wide shoulders with white lines in several places for slower traffic to move over. Some places are just two lanes though.

A sport bike had been behind me for about 10 miles and we were running 55-75, brisk but not crazy when we came up on three slower moving cars. Two of the cars moved over but the third one refused to move over. The car and I were going about 60 or so when the sport bike came around me with a scream probably going well over 100 and passes me and the car ahead of me.

The problem was it was in a very hilly area with limited sight distance and over the next hill came a pickup. I saw the nose of the pickup go down as he braked and pulled to his right. The sport bike tucked back into his lane ahead of the car he had just passed-there could not have been 10 feet between him and that car. I couldn't judge how close to the pickup he was but close enough to scare the driver.

Granted, the people in the car should have pulled onto the shoulder and rural Texans are usually very good about that but this time they didn't. That doesn't excuse the sport bike rider's smart a$$ actions. He almost ruined several lives.

Enough stupid incidents like that and we'll have state and county police all over that road.

Funny how non-bikers only remember those kinds of things, not the nice riders!!

I was driving home in my car once to VT, following a couple goldwing style bikes going kind of slow. Came upon a similar climbing/passing lane that I knew was coming so I got closer to them so when it came I could get around quicker. Well the two bikes decided they would like both lanes to themselves! But I didn't know it. The guy in the left lane got over to the right so I started to go around the rear bike when he began to creep left, saw me next to him, gave ME the finger!! All I did was pass on the left!! Aparently Goldwings don't have mirrors...

I got behind a gaggle of Goldwings earlier this month. My great aunt Gertie drove faster. A few of them had trailers, there were some trikes and one had training wheels. Whenever we came to a passing lane they would spread out taking all the lanes and stay right at 55. Finally I got to a spot where it was legal to pass and was doing over 95 when I went past the lead codger. I considered flipping them the bird for their inconsiderate ways but thought it might be misconstrued as a wave.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I recently saw a Goldwing with training wheels. I'd never seen one before, what's the deal there? Why would you have training wheels on a motorcycle? I parked next to it and was hoping to see it drive off, but it was still there when I left.

Um my guess would be to keep from falling over.
