The other day I took off my taillight Len to see if the gasket was bad. Seem that condensation was forming inside. Well I take it off clean it out remount the gasket and that’s, that right? Wrong! I ride to work the next morning and whammy no lens, just two little red plastic circles around the mounting screws. I guess I over torque it. Fortunately the local deal had one on hand ($34). Dam that hurt. But what are you going to do?

Had a burned out tail light bulb not too long ago, simple bulb replace, right? Not hardly. The lens was near welded to the gasket which was as tight to the mount. 'Most' of the lens came off. A large chunk remained attached to the gasket/mount as it cracked coming off. Replaced the bulb and went to the shop to order another lens. The new lens is in my tool box waiting. Next time the bulb goes, the lens gets replaced and will put some vaseline on the gasket.

My lens broke while on the tail end of a long ride. I'm glad I was on my way home when it broke(never did find it). 34 dollars to replace it........Angelis

The gasket does NOT seal the light lens, preventing condensation. The gasket is actually split (gapped) at the bottom to allow moisture to escape. If you have excess condensation that will not leave after a period of time, make sure the drain (the gap in the gasket)is open. Trapped moisture can lead to problems.

that's a really good point. After all the rain riding to, from, and during NorEast there is condensation in the console lights, tail light and rear directional signals.
think drying them out is a good idea?

Because I've got LEDs in my taillight I (technically, till I change the design at least) will never have to remove it again, so I've sealed the whole thing up with silicon. No more condensation for me.
