Has anyone tried this? The Speedmaster would look narrower and better with 2" taken off the turn signal stalks, or mounting rods. I am cutting off two inches then cutting off the turned down threaded end then drilling and tapping to re-insert the cut off threaded stub into the shorter stalk.

The threaded turned down portion that goes into the plate bracket is long enough to be screwed into the stalk and still have enough length to get the nut on it to clamp it to the plate bracket.

That is exactly what I did and it look so much better. I also put it back together with blue loctite.

I did the job today in an hour or so and it looks great. I just had to buy a 10mm tap at the hardware store. I already had the required 11/32" drill. Having a drill press and vise were very handy.

I like the narrow look of the rear end now, it matches the front. I have the short Triumph pipes and the narrow rear end follows the lines perfectly. The bike looks more like a "Speedmaster" and less like a typical cruiser, more like a custom cruiser.

Great, post some pix. Never did find the one I mentioned to you. A drill press is handy. I used one to drill out the front turn signals to mount under my driving lamps. I might do my rears this winter as well, get them in line with my saddlebags.
