Hi, been lurking for a while & finally got myself registered on the forum (thanks Jim).

Anyway, im from Leicestershire (UK) & live by Mallory Park race track which is about 4 miles up the road from the Triumph factory in Hinckley.
Ive had many bikes over the years, 600 Hornet, 900 Hornet, CB1300, 92 Fireblade, 98 Fireblade, CBR1100XX blackbird, 02 Fireblade & an Aprilia Mille. Started to find sportsbikes uncomforatble as i have a back injury plus i tend to find with a sportsbike you ride 130mph everywhere.

Decided to get a cruiser type bike last year & eventually settled on either a Triumph America or Speedmaster. Got an 07 America in the end which came with plenty of extras added by the previous owner & ive since added a few more myself.

Still fancy getting a few more chrome goodies & then im done.

Thanks.
Black plates with white (or silver) digits are legal on vehicles first registered before 1st January 1973.
Even if you have a private plate which was first issued before that date, if it is on a post-1973 vehicle it must have reflective plates.
Im chancing it as i prefer the look of the black & silver plate but could well get pulled over by the police. I think the offence probably carries 3 penalty points & a £60 fine but if i act dumb hopefully i will get away with a telling off & told to change it for a yellow reflective plate.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your purchase, Duncan!

And what Grzegorz is referring to here is that in most cases keeping the air-injectors will usually result in the header pipes bluing, and yes, even on the double-walled exhaust Cruiser models. However, with your bike already being six years old and according to your pictures with your bike's headers still as shiny as ever, I suppose I wouldn't worry too much about this then.

They DO look better. If you catch plod on a bad day he might be an asre but you might be lucky and just get a slap on the wrist and be told to change it.
I had a '72 American car and the silver effect had all but come off. Plod pulled me over thinking it was dirty and asked me to clean it.
When he realised it was pretty much black letters on a black plate all I got was a producer.

BTW, if anyone else wants a black plate like this, PM me

Nice looking bike, you should try and get to one of the UK Rallies or meets with some of your BA.com members sometime. Be good to see you and your bike

Congrats Duncan! I too (sorta recently) got a lightly used '07 this past April 2012. Same colour scheme too!

What are the three horizontal bars on the petrol tank aft section?

I got mine in June of last year & the three strips that you mention are horrible self adhesive pieces of fake carbon fibre fitted by the previous owner.... Not by choice.
I am intending to replace with e leather bib or something similar but have left them there for the time being as hideous is better than nothing i suppose to stop the scratches.

Most definitely.
Mine are from a Landrover, 4x lenses & 4x orange bulbs for £10 off ebay.
Just needed slightly modifying to fit. The screws holes just needed opening outwards about 2mm each. Theres plenty of plastic around the holes to accommodate this & it doesnt notice once fitted.

It takes a good picture but its by no means perfect im afraid mate.
There are a few bits of corrosion around. Mainly fork bottoms, bar risers & the front wheel. But its not a brand new bike, it has been used & will continue to be used so thats just life i suppose.

I think it is worth removing the AI just for the access to the plugs.
Posted By: MercKing Re: Newbie with 07 America - 03/10/2013 7:06 AM
Dog is right about that. Plugs are a pain with the AI. Plus losing the AI clears some space under the tank and it just looks cleaner.

Hi Duncan, was just wondering if you'd had any bother with the police and your number plate yet?
Posted By: kent1969 Re: Newbie with 07 America - 05/11/2013 1:13 AM
130mph -time to change into fourth on the BA!!!!!!!!! My o8 still has the Ai and 40,000k up with no blueing to speak of. Must be luck of the draw as seen many others with badly blued headers!!!
Posted By: P19DJG Re: Newbie with 07 America - 05/11/2013 6:57 AM
A.I still fitted, no blueing of the exhaust & to date no problems with the police regarding the black/silver number plate

Posted By: P19DJG Re: Newbie with 07 America - 05/18/2013 3:37 PM
Nope its the standard seat with a foam insert that i made & sculptured for extra comfort with a dark red/black leather seat cover that i got from ebay.
Also have matching pillion seat & backrest.
