MegaCycleCams and the swap
Here is a picture of the MegaCycle Exhaust cam in place, but not bolted down. I was just fitting it to see the differences in the lobes themselves. Kind of hard to tell from these pix though.
Here is a shot of the STOCK Intake cam in the exhaust position. Notice the cam had to be placed in the exact LOBE position that the stock exhaust cam was. The timing marks are now in a completely unique position as you can see. The cam must be installed so that the lobes are identically positioned as the stock lobes, the timing marks are NOT the reference on this setup. Kind of a tricky proposition, not for the meek at heart to attempt. If done wrong, you can cause serious damage to your motor. I do not recommend anyone doing this unless they know what they are doing.
The reasoning behind this? According to racers, you can gain HP due to this because you are changing the timing of the exhaust vales opening and closing. The Intake cams have a longer duration and open at a slightly later time, causing the cylinder to compress a little longer and exhaust a little more. Cam timing is quite the science and I do not pretend to really know enough about this area of performance to offer a better explanation. do some research and read up on it if you want to learn more about cam timing.
